Purpose of war is no longer apparent

We’ve been going around in circles in the Middle East for so long now I’ve forgotten what the goal is. Can someone go over again why we’re in Afghanistan?

The US , being the filthy rich country it is,needs a tax write off?
Sure Chuck--Remember 9/11?Or don't you give a crap about it.Unlessyou are one of the leftest nutcases who believes that Bush was plotting the carnage , you'll recall that bin Laden and his murdering thugs were behing the attacks, that they were harbored by the Taliban in Afghanistan, so we struck back to defend the US
against another 9/11. Thanks to the Bush administration policies of kicking the hell out of the radical Islamic jihadists we have had no further attacks on our soil. It is those who forget ,like you, who will be the cause of another 9/11 disaster or worse.Wake up!
Back in the mid 90's big oil companies from around the world were vying to get a contract in the middle east to build an oil and a natural gas pipeline from Turkministan, east of the Caspian Sea area thru Afghanistan, thru Pakistan and out to the Arabian sea where the fossil fuels would be loaded onto tankers. To many in the oil industry this is the last known region that has such a massive natural oil and natural gas reserves left in the world.
At that time the Taliban was in control of Afghanistan to which the different oil companies were bidding to, to win the contract to build these two pipelines through Afghanistan which would bring extreme wealth to the winning contractor. Around this time Condolezza Rice was on the boared of directors of the Chevron Corporation and made many a trip to the mideast seeking an oil deal worth over $10 billion.
Being that the Taliban were controling Afghanistan at that time(they could also control the Shiites, Kurds, etc. living in Afghanistan)They were in the prime position to control who would be awarded the pipeline projects and the money to be made. Before 2000 no decision had been made as small wars were being fought throughout Afghanistan between the different sects, which would have hampered the construction of the pipeline. The Taliban also were going to be charging a large sum of money to protect the contractors and the pipelines. Negotiations with the American Oil Co's broke down and at that point the Taliban became terrorists.
The decision to attack Afghanistan was made before George Bush got into office by beating Al Gore by a hanging chad. The rest my friends... is history.

Hey KillerB: Maybe you could explain it to me. What does "hanging chad" have to do with anything but another attempt to bash Bush.
fremasmind also didn't mention the attacks of 9/11 and the after effects of those attacks. I guess that wouldn't fit his story line very well. But he did end with his comment on chad.

Bush deserves all the bashing he gets and much more.
We should definitely change our strategy in Afghanistan. We should either put tons of troops in (like 300k to 500k) and also invaded Pakistan to get it over with.
Or we should reduce our troops levels to bare level and just take care of the capitol and other major points of interest. We could use those bases to launch attacks against the bad guys.
Of course, Democrats like like Snow, either have absolutely no interest in protecting the USA or believe the world is just made up of people just like him and all we need to do is sit down with them and have coffee and donuts and chat and all will be A-Ok.
LarryVegas I purposly didn't get into the events of 9/11 because our illustrious Bush Administration never instagated a federal investigation by the FBI or the CIA to prove his theory and disprove the theories of others. I won't go along with the White Houses' theory of the planes causing the twin towers to collapse because this theory was never proven through a federal investigation. Science never proved this theory.
All I know is that since the mid 90's our big oil companies have been trying to work a deal in the mid east to construct 2 pipelines through Afghanistan and bring the last of the massive reserves known to mankind to markets. This undertaking would bring multi billion dollars to the company who lands this job.
If any american who is really concearned and interested into why 9/11 happened and who is responsible, start by typing into your address bar;
1.Project of a new American Century, and read.
2.Oil and natural gas pipelines through Afghanistan
3.The Carlysle corp.
4. oil and natural gas repositories around the Caspian Sea
Let your brain wander, its amazing. Once one starts realizing that the some of our elected officials has personal greed as their number one priority, look a little further and find out why. Which major corporations do they have ties with? Where are their investments?
This may answer the question why our government wants to control the internet.
This will also answer why we are in the mideast. Since we have been in Afghanistan we have set up bases for our american military in the areas which these two pipelines are to be constructed to guard and protect them.
Follow the money. Do you think investors want to spend billions on a pipeline that will be destroyed by disgruntled Afghanis? Follow the money.

Oh... You guys got me good... You are right, I give up... George Bush had Dick Chaney sneak into the polling areas and made the "chad hang" right in front of all of Gore's attorneys.
Let me see if I got this one right... George Bush planned the attack on Afghanistan before he was elected as President and prior to 9/11. OK... I got it now... George Bush planned it when he was governor of Texas... Maybe the Texas National Guard was going to invade Afghanistan and turn it into the "Six flags over Afghanistan" amusement park.

I don't think that any one on either side of the isle would dispute that on 9/11 we were attacked by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
I seem to remember politicians of all stripes calling for war against them. What was hotly opposed was the war in Iraq but nearly everyone was in agreement about the Taliban. I don't know much about oil conspiracies although I do believe in chasing the money when you want to discover what a politician is up to.
But, are you saying we are in Afghanistan mostly for the oil? If so, I guess Obama is in on it, yes? That would mean that Obama is willing to trade the fresh faced American soldier for oil money?
The Taliban never attacked us, we attacked them in Afghanistan and took them out of power. At that point we didn't have to deal with them concerning the pipelines to be constructed in Afghanistan. Our government already marked them as terrorists, and at that time because of the shock and awe from 9/11 we believed them.
I remember that day, I got home just as the second tower was collapsing. Watching the horror put in front of millions to see, I was in shock to the death and destruction as the second tower fell. ten floors a second.
After days of watching the same scenarios it struck me funny that each of the three buildings fell into its own footprint at the freefall speed of ten floors per second. 30 days after they fell there was still molten metal under each of the three buildings. Fact!
Larry there is no reason to get excited because as american citizens we can't do a thing about what took place that day. I respect the fact that every american citizen has his/her right to believe in where their mind and soul takes them. I also believe that every american citizen should allow any other citizen to believe where their mind and soul takes them. Until there is a federal investigation to prove the events that took place that day, everything and anything is just a theory. The events that took place in the middle east in the mid 90's up until 2000 are facts. Follow the money, follow what the oil industries and our government was doing at that time. It took me a few years, but my curiosity was born back in 2002.

Give Afghanistan back to the Russians immediately. We have important business in Venezuela to attend to.

Do any of you HONESTLY think we can put an end to the Taliban. To kill them all and have none left. It will never happen. There will always be religious extremists, and we are wasting our money and our soldiers lives on a war that can never be won. Better to spend those resources at home.

smokininkman has a point there. I for one do not have the answer. We have trust in our military. I just not sure we can trust our elected officials to do what's right.
Why do we have to kill all of the Taliban? What did they ever do to us? We attacked them when we attacked Afghanistan.
It's either kill them or register them to vote as Democrats or Republicans and they will kill each other.

Not sure what ya talking about, but if you are referring to plans to attack a country then you should know that Pentagon has plans and update plans to attack every single country in the world.
It is calling being prepared plus they like to waste a lot of money.
I hope to God that Clinton adminstration had plans to invade Afghanistan considering that country was haboring people that had already attack the USA once, US embassies and US Naval vessels.

Sgt nance I'm just making a point on the events leading up to 9/11. Are you telling me that the quest for the 2 pipelines thru Afghanistan did not take place from the mid to late 90's? Are you trying to tell me that the fact that U.S.,Russian and Chinese oil companies were not working with the Taliban in Afghanistan and Turkministan officials in the mid 90's to try and set a deal worth over 10 billion dollars at that time. Surely nance I know you have some pretty awesome abilities on your computer to find information. Follow the pipelines and follow the money. What you said may or may not be true but it would have very little to do with anything.
The USA and every government on the planet will hold their noses and make deals with all kinds of governments. For instance, in WWII we made horrible deals with one devil, Stalin, to defeat another devil, Hilter.
It is just another example of silly little points that 9/11 Truthers will drudge up.
You do know that Obama runs as fast as he can from 9/11 Truthers and Bill Clinton slammed 9/11 Truthers in public.
Clinton and Obama are both politicians who don't want anybody to get one step ahead of them on any subject. No good politician does.
