The driver of a Jeep Cherokee Laredo died at the scene of a collision with a double-bellied gravel truck this morning on Las Vegas Boulevard, north of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
Sgt. Kevin Honea of the Nevada Highway Patrol said the Jeep Cherokee's driver was going north on Las Vegas Boulevard when he crossed the center line into the path of the gravel truck traveling south shortly after 9 a.m.
Emergency medical crews pronounced the Jeep Cherokee's driver dead at the scene, Honea said. His name wasn't being released pending notification of family.
The cement truck's first gravel tank fell onto its side after the crash, Honea said. The truck's driver was taken to University Medical Center as a precaution, Honea said.
The crash is under investigation.

"The strip is so crazy especially regarding pedestrians in the thick of things."
Not all of Las Vegas Blvd is "The Strip". Las Vegas Blvd runs all the way up to Nellis AFB. Miles away from "The Strip". Please re-read the article before you make yourself look like an idiot again.
I also didn't read anything about a pedestrian in this story.
hate to have to hear that there was a life lost but can only say that i am more than grateful that the driver of the truck is ok as he is my brother and this thing is hitting him real hard. He has been a pro drover for over 15 years and this is hard to deal with. lets all say a prayer of thanks that there wern't more deaths.
Auntdele, we always forget that there are people on the other end. I'm glad your brother is okay.
no workers comp claims for emotional or mental stress, so suck it up
Uncalled for mred. Put yourself in this truck driver's seat. If you were involved in an accident such as this, would you want someone to say "suck it up" to you? Probably not. I truly hope you never have to experience it.
And yes, there are always the people on the other side of the coin in something like this. Auntdele, I am glad your brother is ok physically. May he find peace in himself knowing he wasn't at fault.
Correction: auntdede (mis-spelled)
Maybe mred was simply trying to point out the terrible injustice of not being compensated for emotional or mental stress when one is not the cause of the accident.
On the other hand, maybe mred is just too totally crass and unthinking to realize what's going on. I vote for the latter.
Bless you, Auntdede, for reminding us that the survivor can suffer as much as the victim, even though the survivor is in no way at fault. Best wishes to your nephew and to you, for speaking on his behalf.
Up to the "suck it up" part..I would have agreed.
I vote for the latter too!!
I am the father of the boy who died in this accident. Our family is relieved to hear the driver of the truck is okay. One family having to go through this tradgedy is more than should have to period, let alone a second family.
Our son was 20 years old and a good young man, I cannot properly articulate how badly he will be missed.
Pray for this young man's mother. This was her firstborn and he was a wonderful young man. A tragic accident. Hope the driver understands no one blames him.
