flashpoint:
Sen. John Ensign and his apology
Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009 | 2 a.m.
Sen. John Ensign is having a little trouble on his apology tour. First, he clumsily tried to compare himself favorably to Bill Clinton on marital indiscretions. Then, this week he went to visit a dozen or so GOP insiders to ask for forgiveness. He touted Brian Sandoval for governor and implied Jim Gibbons can’t win. So he infuriated Sandoval’s people, who want no part of him, induced gubernatorial hopeful Mike Montandon to attack him and dissed the GOP governor. Nicely done. As one wag put it, “I guess the Ensign ‘Apology Tour’ is going to be conducted a dozen people at a time, which should have him wrapping things up right around when hell freezes over.” Or when he gets reelected, which may be a coincidental event.

He should quit touring and get to work. The Ensign "brand" is in the trash bin, and doesn't have a chance of being refurbished until he can point to substantive legislative accomplishments that benefit NV's people.
