Boulder City offers dog obedience class

The Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department will offer a six-week-long dog obedience class Sept. 14 through Oct. 19.
Classes will be held 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Mondays at the Multi-Use Building in Broadbent Memorial Park.
The first class will be held in the Multi-Use Building without dogs and the remainder of the classes will take place both inside the building and in the park.
The class is designed for ages 10 to adult. Children ages 10-14 require adult participation.
There is a $50 registration fee, and participants may register Monday through Thursday at the Recreation Center, 900 Arizona St.
Additionally, a series of "Saturday Dog Obedience Workshops" will be offered as follows:
- Dog Talk: This two-hour workshop will be held Sept. 26 or Nov. 21. It addresses the basics of dog obedience, the different methods of training and types of collars Fee is $25.
- Basic Dog Obedience: This four-hour workshop will be offered Oct. 17 or Dec. 19. It covers the same information as the six-week class focused on training the trainer for a fee of $50.
- Advance Dog Training: This four-hour workshop will be held Jan. 16. It will build on existing skills to progress to distance commands and maintaining good boundaries. The fee is $50.
- Beginning Agility: This four-hour workshop will be held Feb. 2. It teaches owners to introduce their dog to ability obstacles for a fee of $50.
All courses are taught by Kathy Bethke, who uses motivation to effectively train dogs.
All dog owners who have participated in a course or workshop also are welcome to participate free in an unstructured time for socializing with other dogs on Saturdays at 10 a.m. at the Multi-Use Building area of Broadbent Park and Sundays at 4 p.m. at Wilbur Square. The cost is $15 per month for those who have not taken a course. No aggressive dogs please.
Register at the Recreation Center Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, contact the Recreation Department at 293-9256.
