Patrols planned Sunday to nab drunken drivers
Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009 | 9:18 a.m.
North Las Vegas police announced this morning that officers will spend the day after Halloween searching for drunken drivers.
Police will conduct a saturation patrol in "a few major corridors" in North Las Vegas, a statement said, with more specific locations to be announced later. Officers will be conducting traffic stops while looking for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The increased patrols will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and are being funded by a grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.

Far toooooooooo many people are drinking and driving. Thank-you for staying on top of this problem
How do you "look for a driver under the influence?" Sounds like a reason for harassment. Can't tell you how many times I've reached for something in my car and kinda went out of my lane is that a reason for pulling me over? And it's only in N. Las Vegas??? I guess DUI only occur there.
thekube,
It is actually quite easy to "look for a driver under the influence." And of course, law enforcement can spot fools that "reach for something in their car and kinda go out of their lane", and will pull them over first; it's like a freebie for them. It's only in North Las Vegas because, as the article states, they received a GRANT to run the operation.

Glad I don't have to worry about the likes of you and your irresponsible driving. Reaching for ANYTHING is dangerous while driving. The smart and adult thing to do is wait until you stop at a light or if you need it asap - pull over and get it.
PS WHY do the police give a heads up on this kind of stuff? It would be much more interesting and more successful if they just "surprised" everyone!!!
Contrary to public perception, policing ploys such as this are an inefficient utilization of resources.
: )
I sort of giggled when I heard they are checking for drunk drivers in broad daylight ... but then I thought to myself ... if they are drunk in daylight and didn't read that cops would find them ... when I guess they should be arrested then. Haha.
They publicize the fact that they are going to check for drunks because that in itself is a deterent. Some people will pay attention and if it stops even one wreck well, you already know what that means.
DUI is right up there with child molestation....countless lives takin by drunks every year and no one cares unless its there family...first offence should be ten years ....
maybe if metro had a few drinks they would drive slower and more carefully.
Maybe they should have done it on saturday night...my car might not be tore up right now
