Letter to the editor:
Bans on smoking are saving lives
Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 | 2:02 a.m.
This is regarding Saturday’s Las Vegas Sun editorial “Smoking bans work: Study released this week shows that indoor smoking bans reduce risk of heart attacks.”
I always thought secondhand smoke was just as bad as actually smoking and I am happy that heart attacks among nonsmokers have gone down because of such bans — and I truly believe that they will help save more people.

Let's ban cars, especially for Metro, that will save a lot of lives.
How about banning my wife's cooking, that might save my life...
People who don't like smoke not patronizing places that allow smoking also saves lives.
The reality is that second hand smoke is not that harmful to most people. Think about it, millions of Americans are more than willing to enjoy a $5 beer and watch a football game with people smoking around them.
If suffering from second hand smoke was really a major hazard people wouldn't voluntarily put their life on the line for a $5 beer.
Second hand smoke is harmful - if you're around it every day of your life for 30 years, that is.
