A 40-year-old man is in the Henderson Jail today accused of having ongoing sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl, Henderson Police said.
Gabriel G. Lopez of Las Vegas was booked Wednesday on 11 counts of statutory sexual seduction, said Keith Paul, a spokesman for the Henderson Police Department.
An officer spotted a vehicle parked in a dark area of the Arroyo Grande Sports Complex parking lot about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said. The officer saw a man and a girl inside the vehicle.
When asked what they were doing, they both replied that they were just talking, police said. The girl at first said she was 17 when asked her age, but later admitted she was 15.
The girl said Lopez was her soccer coach through a private soccer club and the two had had a sexual relationship since May. Lopez denied having sexual intercourse with the girl.
While the alleged sexual relationship is believed to be consensual, the girl has not reached the age of consent, which is 16 years under state law, police said.
Anyone with information about this case or with additional information about Lopez is being asked to call detectives at (702) 267-4773.

Look at this article, one of the better written crime reports from the Sun, so many of them just little teasers -- the crime he's charged with is "11 counts of statutory sexual seduction..."

This is a prime example of the corruption behind many laws. Under the common law girls could marry at age 12, implying ready for sexual relationships. In 1877's Meister v. Moore the U.S. Supreme Court approved the marriage of a 13 year old girl without parental approval.
This law and those like it also disregards the qualifying factors of all crime -- injury to others and mens rea (evil intent) -- and nature itself. Hot young females have been the most addictive drug on the planet since the beginning. It's obvious this 15 year old "girl" was no "victim" of anything but some ignorant writings passed by a government which long ago discarded Constitutional limits -- like "Inalienable rights. All men are by Nature free and equal and have certain inalienable rights among which are those of enjoying and defending life ... and pursuing and obtaining safety and happiness" -- in favor of creating job security for members of the Bar and a police state.
This is a non-crime between two consenting people. Crimes on paper are NOT crimes to real people living real lives.

Another Pahrump teacher, Joseph Peterson, 51, was sentenced to life in prison on his guilty plea for sexual assault on a student in 1994. The girl testified Peterson forced her to have sex a couple of months before graduation. It was Peterson, said the sheriff, who had sex with 60 students over two decades.

Arrests of Clark County School District employees charged with sexual crimes against students.
Nephye Acevedo-Villatoro, 26, a custodian at Coronado High School, was arrested for allegedly exposing himself to a 13-year-old girl after unsuccessfully trying to lure her to his car.
Marlene Hazel, 32, a teacher's assistant at Gordon McCaw Elementary School, was arrested on charges of statutory sexual seduction in a case involving a 14-year-old boy neighbor. Hazel is accused of having sex with the boy while his parents were out of town.
Substitute teacher Cornelius Ausborne, 29, was arrested on two counts of sexual assault of a minor 14 or under, sexual misconduct with a student and related offenses.
Nineteen School District employees have been arrested in the past three years and charged with sex-related offenses ranging from possession of child pornography to molestation and rape.

Interesting, My daughter was coached by him and Jeremy for multiple soccer seasons when she was on his team. We have since moved on;better coach; better environment for sure and it has been a couple years now. Never would I have assumed that "Gabe" would be accused of being as "OPPORTUNISTIC" as this, a sexual predator, WOW...It just goes to show that you can never really pick out a persons character safely and must always be on your toes when having young daughters or sons for that matter in the presence of potential wolves.

Agreed KillerB and I felt my post here did not find him guilty as charged. In fact if you read it correctly, I would have never thought as "Gabe" as doing this which eludes to one of two things, #1 he hides his intentions well, or #2 its just accusations that will be found to be inconclusive and not relevant...Over all I think that the parents of the girl need to be interviewed and see what their outlook on this is...I think it needs to be known if there was opportunity for these alleged encounters and if "YES" why?

this man was my old soccer coach for 2 years back about 5 years ago. i use to stay at his house with his daughter. this is very scary to think that that could have happened to me. now that i am older and have knowledge of sexual stuff i realize that he had come on to me then. oh my i am glad nothing every happened

There is a 25 year age gap between this forty year old and his 15 year old victim. I guess Roman Polanski had a "relationship" with the 12 year old he drugged and raped? Since we are now taxonomizing crimes as "RELATIONSHIPS", according to the LV SUN Jeffrey Dahlmer had a relationship, albeit platonic, as it involved only dining, with the victims he ate. And the Columbine shooters had a relationship with their fellow students that involved gunnning them down.

Let's withhold judgment on Mr. Lopez until all the facts are in. Did the girl lie about her age? Most male adults don't do background checks on a hot chick who is coming on to them. Maybe the female looked older for her age. There are a lot of extenuating circumstances here. The tawdry comments of many of the posters here speak volumes about their own ignorance and prejudices. It's probably a safe assumption if many of the detractors here troubled themselves with tracing their own genealogy back 3-5 generations they'd find what I did -- a great x3 grandfather in the mid-1800s who married a 16 yo (probably my great x3 grandmother) when he was 41.
In 1918 a 29 year old Charles Chaplin married the popular child-actress, Mildred Harris who was 16 at the time.
Apparently there seems to be a link between successful, talented men with charisma and adolescent girls.

I smiled at the young girl and walked into the store for some munchies.
While waiting for my snacks I realized, I just had a conversation with a strange child, how did that appear in public, was I breaking the law, where are her parents, she shouldn't be out that late all alone. I was of color and that young girl was not, I could be lynched for that, what was I thinking, never mind it was all innocent in the eyes of the law. I shuttered to think what some of the people on this thread would have done to me, had they saw me.
Justice is blind, but a lynch mob/mentality isn't, they see very well who they want to hang. Regardless of the laws, they only see intolerance as their mode operandi, their not governed by laws, only might rules in their world.

Marriage is a religious affair; marriage license is a government issue.
The Vatican sees a 12 year old as very capable of determining marital affairs, which is in part because of the idea that age is correlated to puberty, in my opinion. Other religions have their own ideals as to how old their followers should be. I recall a CNN story about some eight year old child-brides in Asia, and the outrage it created in the western world.
There is a separation of church and state issue here. The laws are such that 14 is the age at which there may be any sexual relationship without infraction.
At what age is it officially permitted to converse with anyone younger than 14?
Did the parents condone guardianship?
Is there a curfew in place?
Where the persons involved indecently exposed when confronted by the officer?
Without any infractions, why the fuss, shall we say, time will tell what this is all about.

If you read deMontesquieu's "Spirit of Laws", written in the early-mid 1700s, you'll find mention of a time when fathers married off their daughters as young as 8 or 9 "to avoid debauchery." If I recall correctly, it was largely to save their daughters from street life and prostitution. Marriage as an institution meant far more to them than it does to us now.
I think we have to ask ourselves what's really going on here -- are men of our generation really more interested in young girls, or is it more a combination of newer, more intrusive laws and overzealous prosecutors? I'd have to say it's more the latter than the former.
I remind you of the child daycare witch hunts of the late 80s-early 90s, like the McMartin case in LA, that ruined so many lives. And that trouble last decade in Wenatchee, Washington. I'd have to say the near-hysteria here shows just how really, really dumb and gullible the herd is. It seems the girl spilled the beans on the coach.
From the talk with the girl, they charged the coach with 11 counts of statutory sexual seduction which is 11 counts of a class C felony which carries a sentence of 1 to 5 years each.
Sexual seduction means:
(a) Ordinary sexual intercourse, anal intercourse, cunnilingus or fellatio committed by a person 18 years of age or older with a person under the age of 16 years; or
(b) Any other sexual penetration committed by a person 18 years of age or older with a person under the age of 16 years with the intent of arousing, appealing to, or gratifying the lust or passions or sexual desires of either of the persons.
I doubt that he can claimed that he did not know the age of girl since he has to certify her age to play in that soccer league division.
He probably will plea guilty and negotigate a deal.
At the worst, he might have to serve a year with 3 to 5 years on probation.
At the best, he will just be sentenced to like 5 to 7 years probation.
Since, he has no record I doubt that he will serve any time.
In either case, he will have to agree to never be a coach of persons under 18.
He will be a registered sexual predator for life.

I read a lot of comparing US sex crime laws with other countries, but very little (if any) of the obvious: There is no federal age of consent in the US. From US state to US state, ages of consent range from 14-17. That means what you can do in Hawaii "legally" you cannot "legally" do in Nevada (it's quoted to differentiate legality from morality).
Another point being lost is that criminals are made by laws, as evidenced above. During Prohibition, most of us would have been criminals beause an everyday behavior had been criminalized. Not only do we have to say, "Hey, this isn't Italy, buddy," we also have to say, "Hey, this isn't Hawaii, buddy."
Further, women and men are capable of reproduction from age 11-12, but the American response to that fact has been to pretend it isn't true. We say that "society" sexualizes teenagers, when it is nature that has made them ready for sexual behavior. Pretending this fact isn't true is part of American society's historically recent obsession with youth. If "40 is the new 20" then where does that leave a 16 year old? Adults are confused about how to treat sexually capable teenagers because they are placing themselves too close to teenagers chronologically. Teenagers are confused about how to behave sexually because American society tells them they are legally children when their bodies are at their most sexually aware (male biological sexual peak is at 18, right?) This is not meant to excuse anyone's behavior, merely lay a foundation.
It seems "obvious" to a lot of folks here that this guy was either a "pedophile" a "predator" or both, and all of that comes from the moral judgement made from the age of the woman and the age of the man involved. If you are under the of 21 and have sex with someone under age of 15 then you will be charge with a gross misdemeanor.

Gross misdemeanor can be punished by up to 1 year in the county jail and a fine up to $2,000.

First off, I am as put off as anyone by the fact that Gabe had a sexual affair with a 15 yo. I know him VERY well. I know his family. He has a beautiful wife and a daughter 2 years older than this girl.
Here is what none of the stories on Gabe Lopez will tell you. He is a GREAT dad. He is a GREAT soccer player, and a MUCH BETTER coach than 95% of the coaches in Las Vegas. He is a SUPER nice guy. He IS NOT illegal. He owns a business here in Las Vegas.
I am VERY disappointed that he would take this path, but he did. And ABSOLUTELY I am glad my daughter made it through him coaching her safe and sound (as did 99.9% of the girls he coached). He isn't perfect, and we don't know the whole story. None of us has been a perfect person over the past week, the past 6 months or for our entire lives. Withhold the venom until you can stand before us all and declare yourself a perfect person.

1) These laws or similar laws have been on the books since the beginning of our country

It was decided on the substantive statement of the due process clause.
The government can have laws in such matters if they have a substantive reason to do so.
In the majority opinion, it went on and on and on why it disagreed the lower courts that repeatedly stated that they found that the government does have a substantive reason for the law.
So it was a finding of fact and not a finding of law that was decided by the Supreme Court.
They did not say that laws governing private sexual relations per se are unconstitional.
They just say that the government had to prove that it had a substantive reason for such a law.
Using their own fact finding , they rule that fact found by the lower courts were false and that there own new facts were true.
In the case of adults---people over 21--- having sex with minors --people under 16, I believe the government can easily prove that it has a substantive basis for such laws for can it be easily proved that minors do not have the maturity to enter in such relationships and are preyed on by the adults.
It was a terrible ruling but the Sumpreme Court has on occassions made such rulings which are corruption of the rule of law.
But heck...what can we do about that....they are like Kings and Queens and appointed to life. They are human who at times tend to be corrupt especially when given so much power.

The majority opinion issused a ruling that was based on matter of fact finding and did not issue new law or other turn previous court rulings in matter of law interpretation.
They stated that there no fact that the government had a substantive reason for the law and disagreed with all the lower courts that there was a fact that the government had a substantive reason for the law.
They kept the door open on having the laws reinstated if the government can later at some point in time show substantive reason for the law other than the current reason.

I am responding to the comments regarding Joe Peterson (the teacher from Pahrump that is currently doing life for the rape of a student.)
I was a student of his in the late 80's into the early 90's. I took classes he taught all 4 years of high school. After my freshman year, I became aware that he was no longer allowed to coach the girls sports teams because of his misconduct with the girls. I found it odd that he was still allowed to teach. The attitude amongst his fellow teaching staff was just a hush hush situation; however, The students were aware that he was a "perv" and joked about it often. I do not believe that the vast majority of students, including myself, knew the extent of his crimes. My first observation of one of his perverted acts was during my sophomore year. I caught him standing over a student pretending to read a magazine while he was actually staring down her shirt looking at a 15 y/o's breasts. I started laughing at him. He saw me and became quietly enraged. For the next couple of months he would grade my work poorly and suggested I ask the counselor to be moved into a different elective class. I stood my ground and refused. He knew I had caught him and could have (and should have) reported what I saw. Suddenly, all of my assignments were graded with A's irregardless if the work was a failure or not. The rest of that year and my following two years of school, I sat in his class and turned in no work and I received A's and B's on every assignment. He would appoint me as his student assistant and had me sit behind his desk whenever he left the classroom (witch was often.) Joe was the school photographer and took pictures for the yearbooks. One time I was looking through his desk and found a stack of photos hidden. They were all photos he had taken in witch you could see up the girl's dresses. There were three different occasions during those four years that females students would yell out for him to stop touching them and many attractive female students each year would request to be transferred to a different class, because he was constantly trying to rub against them, look up skirts, look down shirts/blouses etc.
I just wanted to add some insight into what it was like in that school and having a pedophile as a teacher. I am in my 30's now and have two young daughters. I feel guilt for not taking action against him and actually taking advantage of the situation by silently blackmailing him with the unspoken threat, but I was just a kid and so were all those poor girls he abused for 20 years.
Lastly, there are a lot of people he charmed with his personality and favors. Things such as letting students use his vehicles, his pool, hang out at his house etc. Some of these people stand by him and believe that he has been wronged in some way. I feel Those few people are disgusting and shameful. I hope the people he hurt can find solace and lead happy lives.
