FLASHPOINT:

Just what the governor’s race needs

Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 | 2 a.m.

So Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman said again last week — at least twice publicly — that he is seriously considering a run for governor as an independent. Putting aside for a moment — and I do this gingerly — that he simply loves the attention, I find more and more serious people who think if the economy here gets worse and people get angrier, our own version of Jesse Ventura might be here in the form of The Happy Mayor. With two potentially boring (at least in comparison with Bombay Sapphire’s pitchman) candidates for the major parties — Brian Sandoval and Rory Reid — might a man with Goodman’s talent for retail politics and irreverence be seen as an antidote to these depressing times? Maybe. Run, Oscar, run.

  1. We do find it curious that Oscar Goodman wants to run for Governor when under his watch the wrongful deaths, abuse and neglect to children escalated eightfold.
