Woman robbed, beaten in home released from hospital

Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 | 5:07 p.m.

A woman who was robbed and severely beaten about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in her home in the northwest Las Vegas Valley was released from the hospital today, Metro Police said.

A man knocked at the woman's door in the area of Smoke Ranch Road and Buffalo Avenue, saying he had lost his dog. The woman didn't open her front door at that time, but moments later the man returned and she took the chain off of the door, said Lt. Cliff Nichols of Metro's robbery section.

The woman, who is in her mid 60s, was beaten in the face, Nichols said. She was taken to University Medical Center on Wednesday. The man may have known that the woman was alone after her husband died about a week ago, Nichols said.

The man took the woman's keys and her vehicle, described as a 2008 Infiniti G35, silver in color, with Nevada license plate 807KPC, police said.

The man is described as Hispanic and in his late 20s with a muscular build and a shaved head. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt.

Police said the man is considered armed and dangerous.

Robbery detectives are asking for the public's help in finding the man and the stolen vehicle. Anyone with information is being urged to call Metro's robbery section at (702) 828-3591, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.

  3. WOW that's very disrespectful! not all hispanic are the same!

  4. How true, some hispanics are cuban.

  5. Just here to do the work Americans dont want to do?

    Deport all Illegals!!

  6. Since none of the pseudo-patriots are capable of any original or new thoughts I'll just go ahead and repeat myself.

I didn't see in the story where they mentioned the suspects immigration (if any) status. Maybe you know more about the story you'd like to share? Or more likely, you are just speaking from a position of ignorance.

It's obvious that any time you bigots see a person who does not look like you, or has what you consider to be a Hispanic sounding name, you immediately judge them to be illegal, and thus (as is evident by the comments above) a robber or rapist. It must be awful to live in constant fear all of the time.

Really at the end of the day you are just showing your ignorance, racism and bigotry. If any of you idiots bothered to read or understand your history you would know that this country was founded by immigrants and even back then, (some of) the people who were already here told the same lies, and attempted to use the exact anti-immigration arguments as you modern day pseudo-patriots do.

Let's take the Statue of Liberty down and accept the fact that the American spirit is dead: it has been replaced by fear and ignorance

  7. BUY A GUN!!!!!

  8. And as importantly buy some TRAINING. Otherwise the gun is useless.

  9. I agree, ThisOneGuy. But most of America is not racist. It's just that the ignorant and fearful are louder and do a lot of complaining.

  10. I agree. Most Americans understand hardship and adversity and are willing to accept people who are different.

I really believe that most of the racists who post on the comment sections are simply afraid and not complete sociopaths. I try to remember that even when the comments are mean spirited or hateful. As Americans we have been used to a certain social and racial order and that is changing and that obviously scares some people. And we all know that fear makes people act irrationally.

We don't burn 'witches' any more, or arbitrarily murder Native Americans, or own slaves, or have openly segregated schools, rest rooms and restaurants any more. It just takes some time, eventually the more timid among us will yield to the inexorable march of progress. If they want to yell and cry about it along the way then that is their right however, given time and opportunity, even the most narrow minded will eventually figure it out.

  11. I think we should be talking about this poor lady who had just lost her husband a week before. Evil lurks everywhere--but ESPECIALLY in las Vegas due to this being the land for addicts. Desperation comes out of gambling addiction, drug abuse, etc.
anyway--I wish I could give this lady a hug. She must be so traumatized.
