Alexander Haig resigns from MGM Mirage board
Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 | 7:52 a.m.
MGM Mirage of Las Vegas announced today that former Secretary of State Alexander M. Haig Jr. resigned from the casino-resort operator's board of directors effective Oct. 7.
The company didn't immediately say why Haig is leaving the board. Haig has served as a director and consultant for the company since May 1990.
"We are tremendously honored that Gen. Haig has played a key role in the direction of our company for the past 19 years," MGM Mirage Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jim Murren said in a statement. "His knowledge and expertise have been instrumental in the success and development of MGM Mirage and we are deeply indebted to him for his contributions to our company."
A retired general, Haig is chairman of Worldwide Associates, Inc., an international business advisory firm.
Haig formerly was vice chief of staff of the U.S. Army (1973), White House chief of staff under Presidents Nixon and Ford (1973-74), Supreme Allied Commander of NATO Forces (1974-79), and secretary of state under President Reagan (1981-82).

why is the casino industry in the dumpster, al haig on board of directors. us knumskulls on these posts could replace board and upper mgt. and do a better job
i thought haig was still in charge at the white house!!!
Mirage must have planted him in a corner office in case they needed access to Washington.
Me thinks they need some one like Sully Sullenberger...
i guess he's not in charge anymore
I have always been amazed that Haig would stand for all the BS that has gone on with MGM Mirage. How could he abide by getting in bed with Dubai? What about the City Center fiasco that nearly bankrupted the company? The remodel of the Luxor that has went on for four years before the economy tanked, was never completed, and now there are no plans to do so? Lani lying about his credentials? Why did he stick it out this long?
19 YEARS????
They planted this guy on the Board in 1990?
Exactly WHAT has this guy done for the last 19 YEARS that deserves an MGM Board Paycheck...besides show up and vote?
What's that you say, this guy developed their STEALTH Board Member Program in concert with DOD and the Octagon (oops, sorry that's Dana White, sorry Dana)...?
Talka bouta useless appointment.
See ya round, Genrul.
One more thing.
In the interest of FAIRNESS, General, how about explaining what you have done, FOR CLARK COUNTY SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, HEALTH CARE, CRIME, and all those doggone CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE COMMUNITY that you learned in high priced Corporate Governance Education classes you went on.
So here's your big chance to clear things up. Lift up your skirt, grab your *IMAGINATION NECESSARY*'s, and
GRANT THE SUN AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW AS TO HOW YOU HAVE HELPED CLARK COUNTY AS A BOARD MEMBER OF MGM MIRAGE OVER THE LAST 19 YEARS.
We will all being looking forward to it...
It was all about his connections to the D.C. powerbase in years past. That base is gone now; either out of power or in the grave (literally). No point keeping him around. I suspect it was "suggested" to him that he resign.
Mr Haig - with the GOP out of power in D.C. your presence will no longer be needed - there's the door. Hello Mr Gore. Welcome to the MGM Board.
Al Haig. There's a name that works better than ipecac.
"I would like to suggest to you that some of the investigations would lead one to believe that perhaps the vehicle that the nuns were riding in may have tried to run a roadblock or may have accidentally been perceived to have been doing so, and there may have been an exchange of fire."
Look up Jean Donovan on the internets if you don't know what that means.
Dear General Haig
I must apology for the disrespectful people in Las Vegas, sorry to see you go. Hope you have a great retreatment, It was and will always been a pleasure to have served under your command. Good luck sir I salute you.
