Southwest Gas Corp. wants slight decrease in rates

Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 | 4:40 p.m.

CARSON CITY – Southwest Gas Corp. wants to lower its general rates in Southern Nevada by $1.5 million, which would translate into a decrease of pennies a month for homeowners’ bills.

The state Public Utilities Commission says a residential customer in Southern Nevada using an average of 67 therms this winter will see a drop of 22 cents a month if the application is granted. In the summer, the same customer would experience a seven-cent drop in rates each month.

The commission has set Nov. 5 for a hearing at its Las Vegas office, 101 Convention Center Drive. The hearing will be video-conferenced to Carson City.
