Snapshot:
‘Density’ of Las Vegas’ violent and property crime
Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 | 2 a.m.
The map below shows the “density” of reported crimes in September within Metro Police’s jurisdiction (Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County). The first chart is based on reported locations of violent crimes, including assault and robbery; the second on property crimes and narcotics-related offenses. Density isn’t adjusted for the population — the color coding is based on the location and frequency of reported crimes.

The FEWER to MORE scale? Now that's a new scientific measurement we must all familiarize ourselves with! We now have a green- zone just like Baghdad.
Next time - Define violent crime for the readers' as some think a burglary is a robbery - AND - breakdown the type of crime per 100,000 persons.
With that, you get a picture of the local crime rate on a National scale-average. Zip vs Zip like Henderson vs. Irvine, Ca for example.
there are two deep ends
It's obvious without maps:
lower socioeconomic class people like crime and its perks.
Hey - maybe these comments go with the article about our new name Stupid Vegas
this is such a silly chart. it has ZERO context because as it says "density is not adjusted for population".
give us a PER CAPITA crime map.
I am soon to be 75 and I would like to move to a warmer climate area like Las Vegas however even though I only scanned most of the above comments I am bothered by how intolerant the people living in Las Vegas seem to be. I believe if we are to ever have better relations between the various groupings of individuals it is absolutely necessary that we start being more respectful of one another and do learn how to express our frustrations without saying things that would make it very for another person to feel bad about what someone has said about their group. I realize why parents teach their children that sticks and stones may break your bones but names will not hurt you. The problem is so many people don't realize names and gestures cannot hurt you unless you let them by your irrational ideas about what the other person has said. We had best live in a place where laws are obeyed and people are prosecuted when they break the law. I believe one of the most harmful popular irrational ideas is that you are a snitch if you tell on someone who has committed a crime. What kind of a world will we live in if the meanest of us are in control? Maybe when people are filled with hate and prejudices it almost becomes necessary to join a gang for self protection. From what I have read above I wouldn't blame anyone from doing exactly that. I do have faith that through education and determination we can make a better world for us to live in. Having jobs at minimum wage for anyone who wants to work with the government as the employer to train and educate people sounds like a good idea to me. If you think we can't afford it begin to realize what the money spent on war coluld do towards better places for people to live within the U.S.
