County OKs Sprint Cup activities on Strip

NASCAR’s best drivers will be taking a victory lap on the Strip.

The top 12 Sprint Cup drivers will make a loop between Tropicana Avenue and Spring Mountain Road along with making a mock pit stop to change tires after getting the OK today from the Clark County Commission.

The champion of the Sprint Cup also will make a burnout, or doughnut, at Spring Mountain Road just as winners of races perform.

The display will require rolling closures of Las Vegas Boulevard for about 30 minutes on Dec. 3.

This will be the first time Las Vegas has hosted the weeklong festivities. NASCAR officials announced in April that the annual event is leaving New York after 28 years because of the aggressive pursuit from Southern Nevada officials.

NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series wraps up Nov. 22.
