Muhammad falls in quarterfinals at Las Vegas Open

Henderson native Asia Muhammad's run through the Lexus of Las Vegas Open came to an end Friday.

The local teenage star could not overcome No. 3 seed Regina Kulikova in the quarterfinals. Kulikova, ranked No. 159 in the world, cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the Red Rock Country Club.

Kulikova will face No. 2 seed Shenay Perry in the semifinals Saturday.

In the other semifinal match, former Australian Open doubles champion Mirjana Lucic continues her improbable comeback against Aniko Kapros. Lucic, entered the tournament at Red Rock as a qualifier ranked No. 373 in the world.

Although Muhammad is out of the singles draw, she will still compete in the doubles tournament with partner Coco Vandeweghe.

Muhammad and Vandeweghe face Kapros and Agustina Lepore in the semifinals Saturday at 1 p.m.
