UNLV’s 5-0 start, and victory over then-No. 16 Louisville on Saturday, earned the Rebels a spot in the Associated Press Top 25 poll today.
UNLV, with 191 points, checked in at No. 24 in the AP poll and No. 21 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. Kansas tops the polls. In the AP poll, Butler (4-2) is a spot ahead of the Rebels and Portland (5-1) is 25th.
It is UNLV's first AP ranking since the 2006-07 season, but it's also the Rebels' first November appearance in the poll since 1993. The coaches' poll has UNLV ranked No. 21.
“It’s great to be ranked at this time of the season,” said sixth-year UNLV coach Lon Kruger. “Of course, it’s early in the season. Still, it’s great to see your name in there. I think, most important, the guys understand there’s tons of room to improve.
“I’m happy for the fans and the players. And, most importantly, that we keep it in the right perspective and keep getting better.”

And 21 in the coaches poll. Welcome back, UNLV! Now how about you play hungry, win some more, and stay a little while.
No. 21 in Coaches Poll. But remember, this is a big target on your back going to Tucson to face Arizona. Keep focused, fellas.
We are proud of you. Been a long time since UNLV was ranked this early in the season.
Credit to the staff for nice non-conference scheduling too. Go Rebels!
It's important to not be satisfied with being ranked and continue to grow and become a better team. Let's hope they keep the momentum going! GO REBS!
Paging SUFFERIN SUCCOTASH, where are you?? We all know you're still are spending your entire day on this site, just too embarrassed to post because YOU HAVE BEEN DEAD WRONG IN ALL OF YOUR ASSUMPTIONS!!
I believe Sufferin' is posting on the RJ's website under LongtimeRebelFan. New name, same MO
Shhhh let him figure a reason why UNLV is still CBA-bound!
Rofl.
IT IS CBI-JEEEZ! hahaha Kidding :) but yea, according to that dumb @$$, we will be lucky to make the NIT..whrere u at Robert? You scared?
HEY SUFFERIN WHERE YOU AT??? HAHAHAHAHA YOUR A LOSER... I still cant believe how uneducated you are. You say Kruger is horrible but did you know he is only 1 of 3 college hoops coaches to take 3 different teams to the sweet sixteen??? i would say thats pretty ELITE to me. Kruger is the best thing to happen to this program since TARK... so sufferin please do not come to any games because there will be lots of sell outs now that we are ranked and we want real fans in the seats not some loser like yourself.
The rankings may be short lived if we don't focus this upcoming week on 'Zona and Santa Clara. They are two tough squads who would love nothing more than to knock off the Rebels.
Still, the rankings were nice to see this morning. Good luck, Rebs!
Attaboy Rebs....let's come out strong versus the Wildcats and at Santa Clara this week.
Leave the Troll be....she loves attention when she stirs the pot. Only good post she had was about a Stadium on/near Campus. Other than that, just stirring up sh!t.
Rob M...keep up the solid work, my man!
I just don't like people talking bad (especially false) about my Rebels! He ain't in my head, or it would explode!!
Definately need to come out strong in both games this week and win or we are unranked.
Look out, sufferinrobert may be in his mom's Maryland Pkwy basement contemplating self-mutilation. I can picture it now....(mental projection of Ray Finkle in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective")
Oh Robert ...such a whack job. He took the angle that the Rebs would falter..he hoped and dreamed...he lived just to hear people say "Robert you were right"! BUT He was dead wrong! what a loser always wrong always full of crap!

Sufferin' in reference to our 3 headed monster says:
"Boom Boom Pow?
More like...
Terrible Lazy Ok!
I don't see any boom or pow anywhere."
So which one is Santee? Terrible or Lazy? And I didn't see Samuels having his way with Massamba either.
Game at a time - do it rebels!
wow the joy it would be to talk Rebels basketball with Robert, not argue.
This is great news for our Runnin Rebs... UNLV has always been Basketball powerhouse... Now lets get rid of the football program and redirect that money to academics...
boom boom pow....
"Keep up the great work Rebels." Oh, but it doesn't count because it happened on Lon Kruger's watch, right?
"I will live with it for now." Ohhhh, I feel soooo sorry for you. What a burden! db
That's a condor-sized crow waiting on your plate. What's it taste like? Turkey? Chicken? Duck? Rabbit? Cardinal? Sewer rat? I REALLY wanna know...
Haha, sorry 11, I forgot the name of the tourney!
Great job boys keep up the good work. Don't let the new found national attention get your guard down. Play with a chip on your shoulder and the rebs will keep moving up the ranks.
Rob- Do you see Chace breaking out soon? How does he look in practice? He seems to be a little timid to pull the trigger. I know he has the talent and if it starts to translate on the court this team will be very tough to beat.
For those who havent made it out to the T&M yet come out and support this team. The energy has been great and has helped lift this team up. Keep up the great support rebel faithful.
Chace has "broke out" in every area except points... just give it some time..don't forget those 15 pts vs Washburn..he can light it up in a jiffy
11-
I agree he is playing well in every aspect other than shooting. He reminds me of Rene in his contributions but with more athleticism. But he seems to be lacking confidence in his shooting and has passed up some wide open shots. Washburn game his shot looked good but havent seen it since then.
Just wanted to see what Rob has seen in practice. As he was 100% correct about Santee's new found authority in the post. Just looking for some insight as to his confidence level because I am a huge Chace fan. He is invaluable to this team as Rene was over the past few years. Waiting for him to bust out against a quality opponent so he can get the respect he deserves.
I think the ankle injury at the beginning of the season really slowed his progress. He is doing many great things (Rebounds, Blocks, Steals), and we all saw him go 6 for 8 from the floor in the second half of the washburn game so we know he can light it up. I think by the time conference play gets under way he will be back in top shape and have his shooting touch down. Remember this guy was named one of the best players in California in high school, he will come around again on the points column.
Jasper was #39 in HS and Chace was #69, impressive.
I would be worried about Chace's PPG if the Rebels weren't averaging 80+ppg. He should probably average 6-8 ppg this year given how many other great players there are, but he should give several double digit nights and I'm predicting atleast one 20 pt effort.
Go Rebels!
We're not that good. Kruger just had a lucky weekend...which was a product of a lucky 2 years of getting Jasper and Stanback trasferring to UNLV, getting Bellfield J-Hawk and Marshall to sign up, and Massamba and Santee's improvement.
Kruger is just lucky, that's all.
This is so great for our team! They have earned it in style! We get our highlights on every channel across the nation now!(so big for our recruits) We have what it takes to keep moving up up & up! Keep working hard rebz and we'll be there when it really matters! Always knew suffrin had rebel fever, he's just a blast from the past and negative like alot of old time rebel fans who can't stop thinking about the glory days. Well its a new day and we got an all around squad who just might take this nation by storm!!! This is a very special team and it's only the start!!!
Reagan you just named half of the roster and you think that is luck?
And why does everyone want sufferin' to come back and post as soon as we are doing well. So many people (including myself) can't stand the way he posts, yet some people are asking him to come back?
Be glad that he stays away.
Great game on Saturday from everyone. I hope Santee keeps it rolling and the back court of DJ/O/Tre is going to be potent this year!
I don't need to see a doctor, or stay in bed all day, all I need to do is watch the Rebels play!
QT was ranked very very high in HS, cant wait to have him next year!!
I know ballers when I see them and UNLV is loaded with ballers. This is Willis' team and it will be for 2 more years but everyone from Jasper, Bellfield, Stanback, Santee, Shaw, Marshall, Hawkins, & Wallace will get theirs this year. There is nothing about luck with how good this team is and will be come March. What a luxury to have so many players that can go off any game this year!! I don't know if we really know how good we have it with this team. I met Stanback a few months ago on a Saturday night here in town and he told me that this team is going to be real good. I cannot tell you everything he told me but I do believe him with what I have already seen.
This team has the potential to run the table on their schedule if they keep playing their game and stay focused. We will cause matchup problems for every team we play this year, who is going to match us on our schedule?
Is understanding sarcasm a lost art? I thought I was laying it on pretty thick. I'll try harder next time.
I am a tool, thank you forgiving me the chance to prove that Reagan. For my benefit- help me out with a smiley or a *wink* or somethin' next time!
Have a great day.
I will offer up the obvious "/sarc/" next time I spew my sarcasm on the sun readers.
This is GERAT for UNLV but even better for the Las Vegas area to finally get a pro sports team out here
Sarcasm isn't as easily noticed online as it is in your head reagan. lol
Rob Miech let go? In the Sun press release they talked about needing to cut back staff because of a shift to digital medium, yet one has to look pretty hard to find better looking and better written digital coverage of sports than that produced my Mr. Miech.
Rob I hope you land on your feet, you are very talented and should find success with a company that recognizes your talents.
He should get Ed Graney's job at the RJ. that guy is horrible!
