Las Vegas warming up into upper 60s

Warmer-than-normal temperaures expected this week in valley

If you're looking for sunny skies and afternoon temperatures near 70 degrees, the Las Vegas Valley is the place to be today.

The National Weather Service is predicting mostly sunny skies through Friday, with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 60s all week for the valley.

Temperatures started out this morning with a low of 45 degrees just before 7 a.m. at McCarran International Airport. The normal low for today's date at McCarran is 39 degrees and the record low is 22, set in 1948.

The low at Henderson Executive Airport was 41 degrees at 6:05 a.m., and the low at North Las Vegas Airport was 47 degrees at 6:53 a.m. The low at Mount Charleston was 29 degrees at 7:16 a.m.

At McCarran, the temperature was 53 degrees about 9 a.m. and was to climb to 63 degrees by noon, then top out at 68 by 2 p.m., the weather service said.

The normal high for today's date at McCarran is 60 degrees and the record high was 79, set in 1980.

Overnight, as the calendar rolls over to December, the low will drop to 39 degrees by 6 a.m., then climb to a high of 68 degrees around 2 p.m. Tuesday, forecasters said.

For the rest of the week, lows will be in the low 40s and highs will be in the mid to upper 60s, with mostly clear skies, the weather service said.

To the south, gusty northwest winds will move into the Colorado River Valley today from about Bullhead City to Lake Havasu City, with gusts as high as 21 mph, the weather service said.
