Kendall Grove catches Jake Rosholt in a triangle choke in the first round to win their fight at UFC 106 Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Former three-time NCAA Division-I national wrestling champion and Las Vegas-based mixed martial artist Jake Rosholt was cut Monday by the UFC organization.

Rosholt broke the unexpected news to fans himself, via his Twitter account.

“Not a good day,” wrote Rosholt. “Just found out I got cut by the UFC.”

Rosholt, who was still listed on the organization’s Web site as of Monday afternoon, holds a 6-2 overall MMA record, including a 1-2 showing in the UFC.

He lost by submission in the first round to Dan Miller in his debut with the organization on Feb. 7 this year but rebounded nicely with a third round submission win over Chris Leben at UFC 102 on Aug. 29.

Rosholt’s most recent action was a loss to Kendall Grove at UFC 106 in Las Vegas where it appeared he was winning the fight before being caught in a triangle choke late in the first round.

The 27-year-old was a former wrestling teammate at Oklahoma State University to UFC’s Johny Hendricks and WEC’s Shane Roller. All three fighters train in Las Vegas.

Brock Lesnar retires after first-round TKO defeat against Alistair Overeem

UFC 141 Alistair Overeem called it his "liver kick". Brock Lesnar just knew it hurt. Overeem sent Lesnar into retirement when he fired his foot into Lesnar's stomach midway through the first round of their heavyweight title eliminator bout. Lesnar crouched in pain after the strike and eventually fell to the mat. Overeem rushed in and threw a few more strikes, but Lesnar had nothing left. The referee pulled Overeem off to officialy give him the next shot at champion Junior dos Santos. In the co-main event, Nate Diaz upset Donald Cerrone after a week full of tempers flaring between the two lightweights.
