New manager announced for Las Vegas 51s

Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009 | 1:53 p.m.

The Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday named Dan Rohn manager of the Las Vegas 51s, the club’s Triple-A affiliate.

Rohn, 53, is familiar with the 51s’ Pacific Coast League, having managed the Fresno Grizzlies (San Francisco Giants) the past three seasons.

Rohn has 20 years coaching experience in minor league baseball and was the PCL manager of the year in 2001, ‘04 and ’05 when he was with the Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle Mariners). He led Tacoma to the PCL title in 2001 and ’05.

Rohn replaces Mike Basso, who managed the 51s to a 71-73 record in 2009. Las Vegas finished 15.5 games behind the first-place Sacramento RiverCats in the PCL’s Pacific South Division.

Rohn is a former major league infielder and a native of Alpena, Mich.
