A woman died Sunday evening in a house fire in the far western Las Vegas Valley.
Clark County firefighters responded at 9:08 p.m. to the fire at 8 Panorama Crest Ave. That location is near West Desert Inn Road and the 215 Las Vegas Beltway, near Flamingo Road.
The woman’s body was found in the entryway of the home, said Scott Allison, spokesman for the Clark County Fire Department. She was not the homeowner.
About 40 firefighters from the Clark County Fire Department and Las Vegas Fire and Rescue were at the scene, Allison said.
Officials said the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
After about 30 minutes of fighting the fire, the roof of the home caved in, Allison said. The fire took about an hour and a half to extinguish, he said.
The cause of the fire, as well as the cause of the woman’s death, remains under investigation. Neighboring homes had no major damage, Allison said.
As of Monday afternoon, no estimate of property damage had been determined.

The woman in the fire was my friend Karen Heely. She will be missed by soooo many! It wasn't your time, and forever I will remember all of the fun memories we shared!
Just having a hard time wrapping my brain around the fact that karens gone! What a wonderful, beautiful and oh so funny person she was. She will forever have a special place in my heart!
KAREN YOU WILL BE MISSED. Funny how someone can be on the other side of the country and yet still touch people. She was a beautiful person and one that was hard to dislike. My thoughts and prayers are with her family........
Erin Dostal: do you really think reporting that "no estimate of property damage has been determined" is at all relevant here, given a human life was lost? A house can be rebuilt, but we have lost Karen forever. She was a vibrant young woman, a daughter, a sister, a granddaughter, a niece, a cousin"a HUMAN BEING. There is no harm in injecting a little compassion when reporting the facts.
Karen is going to be very missed. i know my best friend Sean, who is her little brother is devastated. if the family comes back and reads this comment please know that you and your family are in my constant prayers
Karen, I find myself searching through our pictures and hoping that somehow you know how much you meant to each one of us! You really were and always will be such a wonderful inspiration and you have left so many of us with great memories of you! Forever you will be missed and loved!
Karen will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family . She was the life of the party and will never be replaced. We shared tons of memories and they will always be cherished.
So, what was the circumstances? If not the home owner, was she a renter?
WOW, I am lost for words... Karen... A WONDERFUL Classmate, a good friend, someone who always knew how to bring the best out of everyone.. U will be missed by so many.. I will never forget our Weight Lifting class our Senior year. My thoughts n Prayers go out to your family this Holiday season, as they have to do something that no one should have to do to such a YOUNG, VIBRANT, Caring person such as Karen. May you R.I.P and may the Lord guide your family through the next couple months and the years to come.
It is so sad when such a beautiful, funny, vibrant woman, full of hopes and dreams can be taken away from us so soon. Karen, continue to laugh and love constantly and know that your laughter and love will be terribley missed here.
I, too, was taken aback the lack of regard for human life in this bit. This wound up being an article about a house and not the young woman who was ripped away from this earth - and those who loved her - all too early. I couldn't imagine being a relative and having read this. Perhaps it was thoughtlessness on the writer's behalf, but what an impersonal note to end on. Reporting facts doesn't have to mean a complete lack of compassion. It's almost as though there's more focus on the value of the building. How disturbing.
My deepest condolences to the Heely family - Karen hung around with my little sister back in middle and high school and was an absolute joy to be around. She even went camping with our family. Our hearts and prayers go out to you all.
