LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Reid fighting the good fight on health care

Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 | 2:04 a.m.

I am thrilled to see that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has presented a health care bill that would cover 94 percent of Americans and cut the federal deficit over 10 years. After weeks of working hard behind the scenes, Reid has brought the action to the Senate floor.

Americans, especially Nevadans, need affordable, secure health insurance now. It is not a partisan issue. It is a human right. Nevadans should be proud of our senior senator, who is putting people before profit and politics.

Fight the good fight, Harry! We stand with you.

  1. Susan Brooks says "I am thrilled to see that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid...."

Reid's bill will cost $849 billion plus the $247 billion "doc fix" or $1.097 trillion and

It still will NOT cover 6% of the people.

    That is 18 million people.

Harry's Hard fought for public option will only cover 1.5% of the people.

$100 million is going to buy off a Senator.

Now Reid is sponsoring paying for abortions.

The House Inclusion of the Stupak Pro-life amendment brings us back to Obama's address to the American Nation from the "Halls of Congress" where Obama felt he was right to ridicule and call opposition to the Pelosi House bill's pro-abortion position "a lie, plain and simple.

The fact that Obama and the Democrats finally had to capitulate and put a pro-life amendment and that illegal immigrants can opt in, into the Health Insurance bill show that teabaggers were telling the truth. Obama implored critics to stop "phony claims" but Obama failed to debunk in his words the "more outrageous myths" of the healthcare proposals. On 11-9-2009 Obama came out and said on the one hand the House passed Stupak pro-life amendment bill was too restrictive and had to be weaken and on the other hand the health insurance bill would not be a pro-abortion bill.

  2. In recent polls it shows that the majority of Nevadans are against ObamaCare.

Why is Reid working so hard against the wishes of the majority of Nevadans?

  3. I'm pretty sure Birdie will concur with Susan and write, Reid Vegas loves you baby. By the way where is Birdie??

  4. Comment removed by staff.

  5. Susan_you Social Parasite pay your own doctor bills or do without, don't be a freeloader.

    Dump Harry Greid in 2010.

  6. it really is very simple...
you either support the public option...
    or...
you support the greedy pig insurance companies and their very real death panels and the money grubbing whore doctors...
    period...
    end of story...

  7. We will se how thrilled the writer will be when we dump Dirty Harry in 2010.

  8. Cut the deficit? Do you believe in Santa Claus also?

  9. Great plan. 10 years of taxes and 5 years of expenses and the plan comes in on cost. harry could have run General Motors with this kind of accounting.

    Oops. now he does.

  10. So who cares if the U.S ranks 37th in infant mortality. Be a man, let them die!
    But please, no abortions.

  11. I agree with you mostly Birdiedreamin. However, most doctors are also victims in this. They are also squeezed by the insurance companies. An think of how frustrating it must be to have an insurance company stooge whos job is to come between you and your patient and deny a health care benefit that you have ordered solely on the basis of corporate greed!

  12. Let's see. 85% of Americans have and are OK with their health insurance. And, you will not get an argument from those 85% that we do need some sort of reform, however, NOT a government run alternative. Now, Harry and co. are trying to pass a bill that will cover an additional 9% of Americans at a cost somewhere just south of $1 trillion. The sad part is that IF Harry and his cohorts pass this mess it will be next to impossible to rescind. Just like the income tax, it will become a bureaucratic mess that will be abused and have more amendments to completely confuse our populace. END OF STORY.

  13. Brooks -- look past the headlines. Turning me into a criminal because I don't support your choice of health care plans is just plain wrong as well as completely unconstitutional. The House version made it a federal felony to not participate in their health plan. That's coercion and legal plunder.

judgesmales -- relevance that bites, love you for that!!

  14. Susan: GREAT LETTER

Today's poll shows 56% of Americans favor the
public option and 42% against it.

    GIVE EM HELL HARRY

  15. All polls......ALL POLLS.....say that the more people are against the current health care reform bill then are for it. In Nevada it is like 52% against and 45% for. 26% are strongly for it and 45% are strongly against it.

As for just about the lone topic of the public option......it depends on how the question is asked.

Again, why is Reid working against the wishes of the majority of Nevadans?

I guess he has already written off his re-election attempt.

  16. Another Republican lie.

Nevada needs health care reform as much as any
    state.
Shame on you for trying to block reform.

  17. The only way to pay for all this government largesse is to print money. When you print money it causes inflation, soon comes hyper-inflation. A loaf of bread will be 30 dollars. Precedent is there, Europe in the early twenties suffered that. Hitler blamed the Jews and the rest is history. What is wrong with the way things are? Nobody dies from lack of health care. Despite what you read and hear from the Democrats. They just want this bill passed because their leader(Obama) said he would get it passed. They think if they don't get it passed it will reflect badly on Obama's leadership.

  18. Phargo:..
You're wrong, the baker will want a date with you!

  19. Hampster most likely is citing the Union Hack poll or the Leftist "Make Up The Numbers As You Go Along" poll. Afterall, according to their core philosophy "The Ends Justify The Means."

  20. Teamster is the liar.

Can he find one legit poll that says that more Nevadans are in favor of the current health care reform being proposed then against?

Of course not....because he is a liar.

Can he find one legit national poll that says Americans are in favor of the current health care reform being proposed then against?

Of course not...because he is a liar.

Quoting a poll just about the public option is not what is being proposed.

They are voting on a grand health care reform bill and not just the public option.

    Teamster....put up or shut up.

  21. It's unbelievable the support Reid has in the Vegas community but this shouldn't surprise me because Vegas is showing it's true colors as being a gambler. Any American who feels this particular healthcare bill will help this country is truly gambling, not only with our tax dollars and economy but our health. I'm asking the residents of Nevada to PLEASE CLOSE THE DOOR ON REID.

  22. "The majority of Americans -- and slightly more than half of Nevadans, including 55 percent of the state's coveted independents -- support a government-run insurance plan as an alternative to private insurance, polls show. In other words, not only progressives but also ordinary Americans and Nevadans want the public option, the polls say." From PLAN, which of course will be roundly ridiculed by the right. Who cares?
The poll is legitimate, regardless of what neo-con nuts think & say.

  23. s.rock:

You are a liar and a disgrace to humanity. All
Americans need health care reform. This will also
help our economy. The poll I quoted was on CNN
    TODAY.
    THANK GOD FOR HARRY REID.

  24. Hey teamster...

No matter what you think about SgtRock's political views, I don't believe he is a disgrace to humanity just as I feel you no anyone else who posts here is a disgrace to humanity...

  25. Larry:

I have had friends die because they could not
afford health care. This issue is about humanity.
    People blocking it are inhumane.

  26. hampster: I had friends die because you democrats cut off their ammunition allowance during the Vietnam War. Take your humanity argument and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

  27. mike germ:

I will stand by my argument. People who are
blocking health care reform are inhumane.
