NVCI director tabbed for Murren Chair
Fri, Nov 20, 2009 (3 a.m.)
John Ruckdeschel, CEO and director of the Nevada Cancer Institute, is the recipient of the newly created Murren Family Distinguished Director’s Chair.
The honor was announced at the institute’s annual “Rock for the Cure” fundraiser Nov. 12. The chairmanship will go to whomever is the institute’s director.
The Murren family chairmanship is the first of several academic chairs that are expected to be created, the goal being to recruit nationally and internationally renowned research scientists to the institute. A donor may establish an academic chair in his or her name, or in honor of someone else, for a specific purpose or type of cancer research.
Also during the gala, the institute raised $2 million, the proceeds going to the institute and cancer research in Nevada.
Heather Murren, a co-founder of the institute who stepped down earlier this year as CEO, was honored with a tribute at the event.
