- Three arrested in weekend robbery, fatal shooting (10-22-2009)
Three people accused in the robbery and fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man last month in the western Las Vegas Valley pleaded not guilty today to the felony charges against them.
The three – two teenagers and a 20-year-old man – are facing charges that include murder, attempted murder, robbery and assault, all with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery, in connection with two incidents in the early morning hours of Oct. 18 in the area of Spring Mountain and Desert Inn roads.
One of the teens was 17 years old when the alleged crime happened and hasn't been charged as an adult.
Matthew Dennis Laneave, 19, and Brian D. Gonzalez, 20, were the alleged lookouts for the third teen, who authorities said shot and killed Dominique Evans, 19, at about 2:25 a.m. at a residence in the 3400 block of Edenville Drive, near Desert Inn and Cimarron roads.
Evans and his girlfriend had arrived at the house when a vehicle drove up behind them and the 17-year-old boy approached Evans, demanding money, police reports said. The teen then beat Evans and shot him once in the lower torso; his girlfriend managed to escape, authorities said.
Police say the three also tried to commit a similar crime in the same area moments before. There were no injuries in that incident, police said.
A grand jury indicted all three last week. They are set to stand trial in district court on May 24, 2010.
All three are being in the Clark County Detention Center without bond.

3 arrested, 2 pictures. What gives? 17 year old can't be published?
goingbust, it's the policy of the Sun and many other media outlets not to identify juveniles involved in crimes unless they are charged as an adult. The teen whose photo is missing was 17 at the time of the crime and hasn't been charged as an adult. It's early in the judicial process so he could be, but until then, we aren't identifying him.
And who says that we can't afford more prisons sure we can' And this is why!
