Employee’s suspicious lunch box prompts mall evacuation

A suspicious package was found outside the Meadows Mall in western Las Vegas about 8:30 a.m. today, prompting security guards to call police and firefighters. It was later determined the item was an employee's lunch box.

Las Vegas firefighters and Metro Police responded to the mall at 4300 Meadows Lane and the mall was evacuated, said Tim Szymanski, spokesman for the Las Vegas Fire Department.

The bomb squad also responded and discovered that the object was a lunch box brought by an employee who works at the mall, Szymanski said.

Although the person claimed the lunch box during the investigation, the bomb squad confirmed it was an actual lunch box before customers were allowed to return to the mall shortly after 10 a.m., Szymanski said.
