Letter to the editor:
GOP bowing to special interests, not constituents
Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 | 2:02 a.m.
I am so disappointed in our Congress. How members of Congress can allow corporations to rule against the majority of the U.S. citizens is an abomination — all because of political contributions by the insurance industry, they are ready to sell out their constituency!
These politicians have no business holding political office, where they are supposed to represent the people. Instead they are only selling their souls to the highest bidder, the people be damned.
I have Medicare, as does my husband, so health care reform should not be our priority — but it is because we are caring people who feel for our fellow man. It is a pity I can’t say the same thing for members of Congress who are so selfish and greedy that they don’t care about the people but only want to see our president fail.
They are ready to destroy this country so the Party of No can regain power and lead us down the path to ruin by destroying the middle income majority, which keeps democracy strong.

"GOP bowing to special interests, not constituents"
What a joke
The Republican have NO say in the Reid and Pelosi bill -- all of the big money from trial lawyers, unions, hospitals, doctors, drug companies, etc., is going to the people putting the bill together and that is NOT the Republicans.
Why is there no tort reform, why is there a $10 billion union buy out. why did Congress negoiate a deal with the drug company to maintain prices.
The only money the Republican who can not write or influence any Democratic bill are getting is from their teabbagger constituency.
Check with Obama, Reid,Pelosi and Dodds to find the money.
hey annette...
bravo...
as a country we have lost our souls...
we have lost our principles...
everything is for sale...
and those with the most money think they are better than others...
and we all know which party is obsessed with money...
we all know which party thinks they are better than everybody else...
the stupid pathetic lying republican party...
who the hell would join the stupid pathetic lying republican party these days...
only l-o-s-e-r-s!!!
There has not been a bill passed in congress for years that was not controlled by special interests and this health care debacle is no exception. The trial lawyers and unions got their way as payback for electing the dems and you blame the republicans? Why would anyone join the dems to follow Nancy, Harry and Barack down the path to socialism?? Just a bunch of sheep that follow the leader without a thought for themselves.
The simple fact is a majority of Americans want the government controling our lives. Every poll taken in the last several month show that the people of this country do not want national healthcare, and what little support it has is falling day by day. Democrats know that if many of them vote for this piece of garbage they will not be in office next term.
The word just came out that mammograms will not be covered for women under 50 when previously it was 40. Rationing! How many women are going to have to lose their breasts or lives so the budget restrictions can be met? This is only the first of thousands of restrictions we will see. Your letter tells me you are older, what will you feel like if you have a serious illness and are told it is too expensive because they cannot spend a lot of money on someone your age? Are you willing to die so government can balance its budget? Government healthcare is bad for America and bad for Americans.
Time for a major third party. Time for people to stop voting for both Dem and Rep. Vote third party.
How wonderful of the Sun to put GOP in the headline when the letter writer NEVER MENTIONS the GOP or Republicans. Not once. So now the Sun simply assumes a letter critical of congress is targeted at Republicans?
Posters, go back and read the letter from start to finish (Sun folks, I urge you to do the same).
The letter begins: "I am so disappointed in our congress." Further references are only to "politicians" or "members of Congress." Why does the Sun assume the writer is talking down Republicans or the GOP, especially when most "members of Congress" at the moment happen to be Democrats?
Let's see if the Sun has the guts to fix this amazing example of bias and putting words in the letter writer's mouth. Or maybe they'll do what they usually do with a post with which they disagree: remove the post.
Read the letter again. This writer could easily have been talking about Blue Dog Democrats not getting on board with the Democratic majority. But the Sun assumes that a critical letter must be targeting Republicans.
I'll await your response, Sun. You've got some 'splaining to do.
"they are ready to sell out their constituency"
Poll after poll after poll says the majority or more of the constituency is against ObamaCare.
So how is that selling out?
I believe the those that vote for ObamaCare, like Titus and Reid, are working against the wishes of the consituency.
judgesmales: Try the power of reason. I wonder if the "headline" has anything to do with the FACT that only one Republican in the House voted in favor of health care reform?!!!!!!!! At least you can respect the "blue dogs" for their convictions.
Annette will now have the "right" to get in line and wait for health care. Thanks.
willie: yes, one did you fool. I've got other news for you: the Chinese are going to call on their $2 Trillion marker if univeral health care for the saggers, tagger, drug addicts, indolent, and obese is passed.
"The Republican have NO say in the Reid and Pelosi bill."
You are right. The Republican party retreated and decided not to participate in health reform. They inspired nothing but hatred and fear-mongering.
Their last-minute "plan" for "reform" is a joke. It will cost billions and will leave MORE people uninsured than the status quo.
The deniers are present even here on this comment site. Judgesmale reads things like "Party of No" and those that want to "see the President fail," then whines that the headline calls out the GOP. Read the letter, it's clear as day who Ms. Zervoudakes was talking about... the GOP.
The majority of the GOP voted against the health bill. Joe Wilson told Obama he lied about illegals not being able to get medical care through the health bill. Since the Dems took SAVE out of the bill, illegals won't have a problem getting medical care. What will this do? We'll be seeing thousands more illegals coming into our country seeking medical treatment because they know their nationality won't be checked. How many more hospitals will have to close or reduce their medical services because they just don't have enough money to fully operate at all? We the people better take note on our politicians who are ruining our country with their greed.
Ms. Zervoudakes, maybe you missed Democrats bowing to other special interest groups like the AMA, pharmaceutical companies, oh and the major U.S. insurance companies (which support the ObamaCare bill!!!) along with the national unions? Or maybe you mistakenly believe that anyone which supports your side must be supporting "the people" and anyone who opposes must be a special interest group?
Ghost, you ran out of arguments to make long ago when the only thing you could say was "Nazi" this and "Nazi" that. Grow up...and read a book on Nazis for goodness sake. They supported wealth redistribution, old age pensions, health care for all, abolition of "unearned income" and usury, the destruction of big box retail stores, and worker ownership of major industrial firms. They were, always and forever, a party of the hard Left. You have utterly failed, to prove otherwise.
gop=ceo's controlling you, make you hate everyone. have some of you reread your posts. god, what kind of people are some of you.
Sounds like it's the left who keeps bring up hate and puts people down for their political beliefs.
As to date, the Republicans have had NO input in the current government takeover health care bills. As you recall, in both houses of Congress, Democrats prepared the legislation behind closed and locked doors without any Republican input.
So up to now, who has been the party of "No?" The Republicans who were "not" allowed to make any input or the Democrats who told the Rebublicans "NO," they were not allowed to make any input...
"As to date, the Republicans have had NO input in the current government takeover health care bills. As you recall, in both houses of Congress, Democrats prepared the legislation behind closed and locked doors without any Republican input."
More Republican lies!
The House bill was debated in committees, amended in committees, and amendments were offered by Republicans on the House floor. In fact, most Republicans voted for the Stupak amendment on the House floor.
To say they had no input is a complete lie.
"Only Sen. Olympia J. Snowe (Maine) voted to support Obama's top domestic initiative, while her fellow Republicans were united in their condemnation of the measure, which was largely crafted during more than three months of bipartisan negotiations. "
When Republicans can't hide in the shadows, they lie, lie, lie!
Republicans in Congress have demonstrated throughout the hc debate that they will vote against it no matter what it contains, and so have some of the democrats. At the hc rally on the steps of the Capitol, Eric Cantor said no republican would vote for the bill. Sen. DeMint said failure to pass the bill would be Obama's Waterloo. Sen. Coburn has been holding up a bill that would help our veterans, especially those from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, simply because Senate rules allow him to do it. He has no regret about denying them the hc they need after voting to send them to war. When the republicans say, "Read the bill!" and "We don't know what's in the bill!", they're not being truthful. I retired earlier this year and watch more of C-SPAN that I ever have. They are sitting in the committees and debating on the bills, adding amendments. If I had a person in Congress who said read the bill or what's in the bill, I would wonder why they're in Congress since they're so obviously and blatantly stating that they have no idea of anything Congress is doing. This is just a way to influence legislation by being in committees working on bills, and at the same time act like you are anti-government. Somebody is being played, big time. If you're anti-government, why are you a member of Congress?
I don't care whether one is a republican, conservative, or a democrat, if we don't want our politicians in Congress to work for the benefit of the entire country, we've not supporting a democracy at all because in a democracy, the government is supposed to work for what's good for the nation instead of taking stands based on partisan politics. I think it is time for politicians on both sides of the aisle to decide for whom they work, the people who elect them or the corporations and lobbyists. Seems like it's the latter two to me.
How about those closed, locked doors there edgewise?
What were all of those Democrats doing behind those doors, playing pinochle? They were writing legislation for a federal government takeover of out healthcare system. That's what...
edgewise is so ingrained on the far left and spreading untruths, that he wouldn't know what a lie was if it bit him on his donkey...
And how many Democrats were consulted when the republicans authored their health care bill, Larry?
Where did that take place? It sure as heck wasn't in public!
Hypocrite.
Democrats even allowed the republican'ts the opportunity to offer their bill on the floor of the house. They couldn't get enough support for it. They failed.
Larry wants to blame the Democrats for the republicans' failure. How typical. There's no need to lie about it, Larry.
I bet that ksand99 can twist his own colon on demand. A master of spin. But spin that is easy to see through.
The Democrats controlled the entire process of writing their federal government takeover of the health care system. Closed and locked doors and all. If the Democrats were even slightly concerned about a bipartisan piece of legislation, they could have invited Olympia Snowe, the only Republican supporter, into their mists. But no, not only did the Democrats not invite Olympia Snowe to join them, they put in a provision that they knew that would cause her to withdraw her support. Some bipartisanship...
It is very typical of the Republicans to whine and pout when they don't get their way.
"Why didn't you let the Republicans write the Democrat's health care bill? You're so mean!" Larry whined.
"Why don't you let Sarah Palin be the President, you mean Democrats!" Larry whined.
"Why can't you just do whatever I tell you to do?" Larry whined.
The American people elected the Democrats to make the decisions, Larry. Your Republican party punched their own ticket from years of mismanagement of the government.
You have no one to blame but yourself.
"If the Democrats were even slightly concerned about a bipartisan piece of legislation, they could have invited Olympia Snowe, the only Republican supporter, into their mists."
I'm arguing with someone who can't discern between midst and mists.
He thinks the Democrats have mists. Bravo, Larry!
If that's the best you can do there ksand99, I think you do need to listen to Glenn Beck. Get a life...
No edgewise, you are wrong... The American people did not elect the Democrats to make the decisions... The American people elected both Democrats, Republicans and a few Independents to represent the peoples interests. A little bit difference there edgewise.. But I doubt that you are able to comprehend that point, because you would rather believe that the voters put Obama and some of his friends in office to do whatever the crap they want to do. I don't think so...
The American people gave the Democrats a 60-seat majority in the Senate.
They gave the Democrats control of the House.
They gave the Democrats control of the White House.
"WHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!" Larry whined.
"Why aren't the Democrats acting like Republicans?" Larry whined.
"I can't believe they didn't take Olympia Snowe to their magical mists!" Larry whined.
The Republicans couldn't even hold a NY house seat that had been in Republican hands since the 1800's. Leave it to the Republicans to screw up a sure thing.
edgewise rants: "The American people gave the Democrats a 60-seat majority in the Senate." Not quite so there edgewise... The American people voted new Senators into office bearing no thought as to the final outcome of the figures.
According to edgewise's lopsided spin, the voters wanted the Democrats to do anything they wanted. NOT SO, THEY WANTED CHANGE, BUT GOT A LOT MORE THEN THEY BARGAINED FOR...
Laugh and spin while you can, edgewise, because 2010 is right around the corner and Independents are going to make a big corrections in the makeup of both the House and the Senate.
"Not quite so there edgewise... The American people voted new Senators into office bearing no thought as to the final outcome of the figures."
"Not quite so there?" What? You're so angry you're not making sense, LarryVegas.
Democrats swept all races... House, Senate and Executive. People votes in droves to oust the Republican party and their failed agenda.
They studied the candidates and overwhelmingly chose the Democrats. They agreed with their platform, with their agenda, and found them more trustworthy than their Republican adversaries.
Now, according to your loony logic, people voted for Democrats but don't want them to act like Democrats. I understand your argument, as foolish and illogical as it seems.
But it's too late to be a sore loser and whine every time the Democrats make a decision you don't like. Your party lost in 2006, and in 2008. Now you're whining the Democrats aren't bending over for every silly whim of the Republicans.
That's not the way democracy works, Larry. Maybe you need to check into a few classes on government, because your understanding of the system is weak and frightfully naive.
You're whining because the Republicans offered a poor alternative to the Democrats. I think your beef should be with Sarah Palin and Michael Steele and the other leaders of the Republican party. They failed you.
And you failed to get Republicans elected to office. Now it's time you man up and bear the consequences of that.
Let me get my high waders on. It's really getting deep in here.
It doesn't matter ksand99, how much you stir that bucket of crap, it will always smell like crap. you can feed it to yourself but you are not going to feed it to me...
LarryVegas: (punt!)
In other words: what am I thinking, expecting topicality, consistency or rationality from a republican?
ksand99:
In other words, I could just about care less what you are thinking, expecting or selling. Go peddle your ideological ramblings to someone who is too naive to care.
Some of us still put principles above political posturing...
Waive that white flag of retreat, Larry.
Democrats campaigned on health care reform and are delivering. The republican party is being left with nothing more than Sarah Palin's brain-dead pleas to profile all Muslims and Michael Steele's fear of white fear of the GOP leader. (No, it doesn't make any sense to me, either.)
The republican party is suddenly terrified of a few terrorists being tried for their crimes. They're left attacking and sinking their own candidates and turning over House seats to Democrats.
You say we're headed for a correction, but in contests held just a few weeks ago, the Democrats picked up two MORE seats.
You have no idea what you're talking about.
I will never waive a white flag, ksand99, unlike Obama and some of the Democrat leaders in D.C.
It's not the Republican party that is suddenly terrified of a few terrorists being tried for their crimes, it's the GREAT MAJORITY OF AMERICANS WHO CAN'T SEE REASONING IN OBAMA'S DECISION...
Liberals have had their hand out for freebie benefits for over 50 years. It all started in the mid 50's. first a man lost his job and got unemployment compensation. when that ran out he got a 13 week extension. When that ran out he applied for Welfare. It did not pay as much but if he had children they increased the check for each child. Also his wife was entitled to a check. He moved his Dad and Mom in and they too received a check. When his oldest child reached 18 he too got a check. Along with medical care. He also got food stamps and he was allowed to own a car if it did not cost more than 500 dollars. If he did not have the 500 dollars the Welfare Dept gave it to him. Now why would this person seek employment? That family was making more than the average guy who worked 40 hours a week, busting his back and paying taxes to support all those Democrats on Welfare.
LarryVegas:
Boo!
Keep up the good work.
Tune in tomorrow for more "Fair & Balanced" for the unbalanced.
Glen
I will be here Willie, how about you???
Annette - You might want to check the polls. The majority of Americans are not in favor of having the government run the health care system.
And blaming the GOP - let's see - the Dems have the White House, the majority in the House and the Senate as well. Why doesn't your party just pass a health care bill? Why are you concerned with what the Repubs are doing - they're the minority, remember?
I think you left out your obligatory jab at Sarah Palin or Rush or all the racists - you might not fit in so well with the geniuses around here.
Republicans say that government can never work for you and get elected to prove it.
Most Independents are Republicans who are afraid
to admit it. I don't blame them. Republicans will
be out of power for many terms to come.
We will never forget the mess Bush left us in.
Whose "we" there teamster? Do you have a frog in your pocket. Do you ever get tired of being negative?
On another topic, I think you should change your name, because you are giving people a bad image of unions, particularly the Teamsters Union who do a lot of good... I don't think they would be very proud of your posts...
LarryV:
The "we" is anyone with a brain.
My Teamster brothers back me 100%. I fight for
workers rights and benefits, something you know
nothing about.
