The preliminary hearing for a 62-year-old man accused of killing a woman in North Las Vegas has been delayed.

Melvin C. Bailey is charged with murder with a deadly weapon. He is in custody at the North Las Vegas Detention Center without bail.

Bailey was arrested in August after North Las Vegas police officers arrived at an apartment at 2566 E. Deer Springs Way and found a 65-year-old woman dead. The woman had obvious injuries indicating she was the victim of a homicide, police have said.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicated the woman was killed by Bailey, who was arrested at the scene.

Bailey is represented by the public defender’s office and will appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 15 for a status check. At that time, Justice of the Peace Natalie Tyrrell will reschedule a preliminary hearing.
