Metro Police have taken a man into custody who was holding a child hostage in the western Las Vegas Valley this afternoon.
Shortly after 3 p.m. today, officers responded to the report of a man holding a child at knifepoint, Officer Bill Cassell said. The child wasn't harmed.
Officers persuaded the man to put the knife down. The incident occurred near Sahara Avenue and Sloan Lane, Cassell said.
The man's relation to the child isn't known.

Now maybe we understand why the 2nd grader was popping a cap earlier.
So Metro took one alive, I suppose someone is going to criticize the way they didn't kill him.
Why do these cowards always pick on children?
This is exactly why second graders should be allowed to carry loaded firearms and other concealed weapons to school. Then the little fella would have blown the assailant away, and all good people could have a joyous orgasm over the man's death. But it's never gonna happen, folks -- at least not as a long as Reid is in the Senate and Obama is in the White House.
Vote Republican.
Lock him up and throw the key away.
The behaviour of people like this always escalates, next time he'll kill someone.
Well done Metro for getting the kid out alive.
