Koz’s Kloset, a Las Vegas non-profit that collects shoes and supplies for needy children, will host the Cheryl Kosewicz Memorial Golf Day on Saturday.

The event will take place at Angel Park Golf Course, 100 South Rampart Blvd. Opening ceremonies begin at 7:30 a.m.

Organizer and Koz’s Kloset President Ann Kosewicz said she expects about 100 people to participate in the golf tournament, which costs either $125 or $60 and two pairs of tennis shoes.

Other festivities, such as a $5 golf lesson or $5 nine-hole putting course, will also be available. All events require a donation of at least one pair of running shoes.

Why shoes? Koz’s Closet provides shoes and supplies to Child Haven, a part of the Clark County Department of Family Services that temporarily provides children with foster homes.

“You’d be surprised how many children come here without shoes on her feet,” said Jolie Courtney, manager at Child Haven. “We have about 350 children come in every month.”

Courtney said that Koz’s Kloset provides Child Haven with shoes every year.

The children will run up and “put their feet out for me to look because I need to see them. It makes them feel important,” she said.

Koz’s Kloset was founded by Kosewicz in 2007.

Kosewicz started the group to honor her daughter, Cheryl, a former deputy district attorney for the Clark County District Attorney’s Office who died that same year.

Kosewicz expects the event to raise about $5,000 this year. With the money, she said, she will buy more shoes, clothing and school supplies for Child Haven.
