LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Climate change skeptics ignore inconvenient facts
Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 | 2:03 a.m.
The “intelligent people” whom George Will referred to in his Monday column in the Las Vegas Sun (“On warming, only talk is urgent”) must have been politicians and economists. They certainly weren’t scientists.
Mr. Will did a credible job pointing out the political and economic futility of the Copenhagen climate summit, but his column concluded with this thought: “In 2005, global warming worriers warned, as they tend to do after all adverse or anomalous environmental events, that Hurricane Katrina was caused by global warming and foreshadowed an increase in the number and destructiveness of hurricanes. As this year’s Atlantic hurricane season ends, only three hurricanes have formed — half the average of the past 50 years — and none have hit the United States.”
Such skepticism of global warming is akin to a Kansas farmer surveying the land around him and concluding that Earth is flat.
Climate scientists haven’t cried wolf. Science is cumulative and progressive, building on the mistakes of the past. Today’s climate data and models are superior to those of a few years ago, and they continue to point at a consistent warming of the planet. Inconsistencies such as fewer hurricanes only indicate that the Earth’s climate system is complex.
Good science means, as Darwin wrote, “to give up any hypothesis, however much beloved, as soon as facts are shown to be opposed to it.” Mr. Will has chosen, instead, to give up the facts opposed to his preconceived notion.

When an increasing large number of peer reviews pan the results it is increasingly hard to believe that it is anthropogenic global warming.
But also even if you do not believe it is anthropogenic global warming but still want to reduce the carbon dioxide and methane foot print Tax, Cap and Trade is the wrong answer.
Obama could have spent the stimulus on a 100 nuclear power plant and Yucca Mountain
Future, I agree we must save the world from the hype of global warming, but to want more nuclear power plants and continue with Yucca Mountain? Why create more avenues to where there could be more nuclear disasters before scientist really learn how to control nuclear power?
Back in the mid 70's there was talk and predictions of global cooling. Winters were longer, colder, and the snow that was falling in the Northern Central and Northeastern States did not have a stop valve on it. People got stuck on roadways because the snowplows couldn't keep up with clearing the roads of new snow. People who didn't escape their vehicles to safety froze to death in their cars.
Now 30 years later we are being told we are experiencing the start of a global warming effect when certain parts of the world are going thru the exact opposite.
Our worlds weather works in ways to recycle itself. The weather is produced by not only atmospheric events encircling our globe, but by the fact that the tempurature in our ocean currents circle the globe as well. Therefore climate change from hot to cold, from cold to hot in all parts of the world will always be taking place.
The record keeping of our weathers' past goes back 200 some years. The farther we go back the less we know about the worlds weather ouside of clues that are found in our earth.
Let's not rush to any actions towards this global warming, an inconvenient truth, until we can investigate more, get hypothesis from scientist around the world, and not rely on our politicians for answers.
George Will is your basic wealthy WASP, conservative, commie-sider, and America-hater. Fact is, his type hates the entire world. He is all for rich WASP (global pimps of oppression) destroying the whole world, all for a few dollars. Mucho thanks to Steve Wynn and Wal-mart for their economic snuggling with Chinese dictators. WASP mantra, "This we do, in HIS name".
Hey Future,
Provide a complete list of the peer reviewed papers you say pan the consensus. How many are legitimate and how many have you actually read?
Fremmasmind,
It is called weather not climate for a reason. Do try to understand the difference.
It is getting so much warmer, if only we could tax all the energy in the world and then send payments to other countries the world would be perfect.
see the US october numbers were the third coldest in recorded history. 4 degrees colder than even average.

Mr. ic..vet,I find Georges writings a clear call for peace to be restored within the mideast and to save our soldiers by bringing them home. I as well as thousands of Americans don't seem to have a problem with that.
What I do have a problem with is the way our mass media co's are not disclosing the whole truths, not only about the occupations we have in the mid east, but about the problems we have with our economy right now. I can lay blame on the editors in each of the newsrooms and newspaper companies servicing cities in our nation, but then they have got their higher ups they have to answer to.
I had a discussion with a few of my co-workers on Friday at lunchtime and we all agreed that if the greed in our government and in the military industrial complex was not controlling the descisions being made by our government, we would not be going out and starting wars and/or occupations. We also agreed that greed is not only an american trait.
Looking back in history we agreed that the majority of conflicts between nations are caused by greed. We also agreed that if all countries would be helping each other, we'd have a better world to live in, but, of course, the big CEO's and politicians worldwide wouldn't be making the money they wanted to. If we could take away all of the greed in the world we'd see a different place. We all know this won't happen.
mschaffer climate produces weather, so what's your point?
fremmasmind,
The point is that mschaffer is smarter than all of us; he has already decided that man-made global warming is real; he has nothing but disdain for mere mortals like us who have an open mind about it and still strive to evaluate the evidence.
October 2009 was the third coldest on record.
Dingo: is Neal Bush responsible for climate change?
mikegino,
Don't muck with dingo, not even in jest, he makes Major Hasan look sane.

My follow koolaid drinkers, how many times do I have to remind you to stop using the term "Global Warming"? It is now "Climate Change". You do know that the avg termperatures have been falling in the last decade. When you say "Global Warming" it makes us look dumb. Stop it now!!!!! Use "Climate Change" num-nuts!!!!
P.S. Can you please buy some of my books and DVD's? The economy has been really rough on me. I only made $100 million off of this "Global Warming"...opps...I mean "Climate Change" scam..I mean dogma...I mean ...you know what I mean. Sugar needs a new pair of shoes. Help me out.
Also, I am happy to annouce the re-education camps are ready for any scientists, especially life-long experience well-respected climatologists, who dares DAREs D....A.....R.....E....S challenge ANYTHING I declare as truth.
enteaser: thanks for the sage and funny advice. I've noticed that the dingomeister usually only posts once a day, probably during recess.
Lets no forget on this Veterans Day that algore tried to disallow absentee ballots from overseas serviceman during the 2000 florida presidential recount.
Thank God W became president, during his 8 years the planet actually cooled.
enteaser, I thought ms. chaffer was a woman.
For the record the media did blame Katrina and other disasters during that time on global warming. I remember one nationally renowned tv journalist even claimed the tsunami in Thailand was caused by global warming. Unfortunately for this journalist the tsunami was created by an earthquake halfway across the globe. As far as any scientist is aware there is no connection between earthquakes and climate change.
Additionally, the climate change data is mixed and the models not very predictive. Politicians are always eager to rush into wasteful spending fads so its advisable to tell them to hold up and look toward cheaper and less draconian ways of dealing with the problem.
Republicans no nothing about science, it's like
talking to little children.
Al Gore won the Nobel Prize. He's 1000 times
smarter than any Conservative that I know.
Repubs don't believe the truth or the facts.
Thank God there out of power.
hampster: Is "no nothing" the same as "know nothing?"
Where is that great american patriot Jimmy Hoffa buried?
mikeg:
Know nothing Repubs will never understand
science. How old is the earth?
Jimmy Hoffa cared about the working man.
Repubs care about CEO'S.
I have a great life because of Jimmy Hoffa.
Teamster, you have a great life because you essentially take it away from someone else (and I'm not talking about the CEO, I'm talking about other workers). That is the main way unions are able to increase wages for their members.
PS,
It is: "Thank God they're out of power"
And no Democrats do not have a market hold on understanding science. They are more than willing to dismiss it when the results don't fit their agenda.
fremmasmind,
That would explain her inability to discuss the topic, any topic, with logic and reason. thank you
teamster, I'm a very un happy democrat who is going to be changing my party affiliation. The democratic controlled house voted to pass the bill on our governments health and medical bill with no e-verify to weed out the illegals that would try to take advantage of the bill. The repub's did not vote for the bill for this reason and for other reasons. You want to get down on the Repubs for not voting for a bill that doesn't protect our american citizens? Why don't you give your job up or your retirement fund to an illegal alien?
I'm starting to notice a correlation between Obama's tanking poll numbers and confidence in the stock exchanges. Wow, change we can believe in!
"Teamster, you have a great life because you essentially take it away from someone else (and I'm not talking about the CEO, I'm talking about other workers). That is the main way unions are able to increase wages for their members."
If this is in fact correct why would any group of workers not form or join a union as it would be in their best interest. If this is true why would any company or CEO oppose unions as it is not taking anything away from them?
The only way a company or union opposes or supports something is if it benefits.
castle:
Most company CEO's oppose unions so they can
avoid giving livable wages and benefits to their
workers. Wal-Mart is the best example. They
intimadate or fire workers for trying to start
a union.
Good union stores are Albertsons, Vons, Smiths
and Food For Less. SHOP UNION.
freemasmind:
You sound like Lou Dobbs.
Patrick R.Gibbons:
So your saying that the vast majority of
scientists are wrong about Global Warming?
teamster: you sound like a union organizer/commissar. Global warming is just another big government scheme to control the masses. Now that the "Jesus Hustle" has run its course, the government needs a new opiate. By the way, we love shopping at Walmart, Trader Joe's, and Costco! We're not interested in subsidizing unionized clerks who make $35 an hour to do what technology now allows us to do for ourselves.
