LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

There is plenty to be outraged about

Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 | 2:04 a.m.

I’ve been reading other people’s complaints in the newspapers and watching them on TV. Now it’s my turn.

First, we need to get rid of this bipartisan idea. It is not about the best interests of the people or the country. It is all partisan and all about reelection, and the sooner we quit acting surprised at partisan political bickering the better. Peace in the Middle East is more likely than bipartisanship.

Conservatives really upset me. They say they want smaller and less intrusive government but then they want the government to impose on others, by law, their beliefs about women’s reproductive choices and marriage. I guess they’re happy if no one imposes anything on them. They might campaign enthusiastically to prevent abortion but too many seem to lose interest once a baby is born.

Some television commentators put up a spirited defense of Wall Street firms handing out tens of billions of dollars in bonuses to their employees and decry workers being paid $14,500 a year, the minimum wage, because it will ruin the economy. Are they afraid stock traders won’t be able to afford a Big Mac?

I watch conservative members of Congress parade before microphones and wail about the budget deficits we are putting on our children’s credit card. Many of these same legislators had no qualms about eliminating the budget surplus we had in 2001 and passing the Bush tax cuts that benefited mostly the wealthy and put the budget back in deficit. Apparently it was OK if the kids paid for that.

Discussion: 39 comments so far…

  1. who the hell would join the stupid pathetic lying republican party these days...
    only l-o-s-e-r-s!!!

  2. I am quite thankful for President Bush's tax cuts. It gave me more money to buy things I want and gave the government less money to provide me with things I don't want ie government "services".

  3. I'm sick and tired of poor and working class Americans, across all racial lines, being pimped-out and exploited through useless and senseless wars. Americans as a whole, haven't made wartime sacrifices since WWII. Rich American WASP (global pimps of oppression)have however, started several wars since WWII, where their blood and treasure cut and ran. We need a military draft ASAP! We won't get it because rich WASP won't stand for their kids being toe-bagged and zip-coded backed to them, in BBQ'ed chunks (bodybags).

Don't give me that "all-volunteer" military crap either. Slavery worked at the expense of Black folks like me. The "all-volunteer" military culling has worked, simply because Blacks are saddled with a perennial "double-digit" unemployment rate. Initiating the military draft would be a great cause for Black "tea-baggers".

  4. America, will you ever grow tired of mass murdering colored-folk? You started in 1619. In the past 400 years, you've mass-murdered more than 10 million Arabs (Iraqis*Afghans*Lebanese* Kurds, etc.), Vietnamese, Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, etc. Americans haven't killed a single white-man in combat, since WII. Ooops! We may have "picked-off" a coupla Russians, who were snuggled as military advisors with the North Vietnamese.

BTW, we just executed John Allen Muhammed. Boy George mass-murdered 500K innocent and unsuspecting Iraqis, all for oil pilfering, Judeo-WASP crusade, GOP 'grin and grip" sessions, and war profiteering for Cheney, GE-NBC, Blackwater, and Halliburton. The "LOO" is the best place for the bible, torah, koran, and book of morons. O"BUMBLER has shown his lack of stones, he allowed Muhammed to be executed, and Obama sentenced Boy George to "cutting brush" in Brokeback Mountain, TX.

    Sincerely,
    Your retired Vietnamese "baby-killer"

  5. Lot of unhinged, whacked out ranting going on up in here.

  6. Boy, the LV SUN must have dug to the bottom of the barrel on this one.

Appears that this wailer is nothing but a "give me."

Too bad it had to be printed this Veterans Day. A day about REAL sacrifices, not some wailer who wants more given to him...

  7. lcdrmandoofusnamvet..........Boo Hoo another upset person of color. Get over yourself!

  8. dingo: should Obama have pardoned Muhammad and given him his Nobel Peace Prize? What about Neal Bush? Doesn't he also merit consideration?

  9. GREAT letter.

  10. larryVegas:

So if they don't agree with you, you resort
    to name calling. Typical Repub.
Did you forget this is a Democratic site?
Progressives run this site and this country.

  11. hamster: where is that great American patriot Jimmy Hoffa buried? Do you have one of the commemorative shovels? FYI: the only thing Progressives run is their mouths.

  12. teamster:

Where's the name calling? Please tell...

And, that's why I am here, because this is a Democratic site and I don't want to see progressives run this site or this country...

But first things first. Where is the name calling?

  13. LarryVegas:

So your here because you don't want to see
progressives run this country? Your to late
    and in the minority anyway.
If you don't think calling someone a wailer
is not name calling, your not to bright.

mike g; James Hoffa Jr. is the current
president of the Teamsters Uuion, the strongest
    union in the country.

  14. hampster: where is his father buried? In Grant's tomb? Why do most of the rank-and-file vote conservative and watch Fox?

  15. mikeg:

We rank and file members line our trash cans
with Fox and always vote Democratic. Why would
    we vote for anti-union Repubs?

Anti-union Reagan and Bush ruined our economy.
    WE WILL NEVER FORGET THAT.

  16. teamster writes: "If you don't think calling someone a wailer is not name calling, your not to bright."

To wail: to express dissatisfaction plaintively...

    The wailing wall...

    The wailing place...

  17. Somehow the tripling of the deficit by the Obama administration is NOT passed on to our kids. Or somehow party partisans forget their own teams misdeeds. By the way, the bailouts for Wall Street were bipartisan -- supported by Brian Greenspun himself.

Teamster, why do you put paragraph breaks in the middle of your sentence?

  18. teamster, who you calling not too bright? ever heard of the pot and the kettle? at least larryvegas writes above a 4th grade level, pal. (please don't have me whacked).

  19. There is nothing wrong with this country that a massive tax strike by the upper middle and upper class could not cure. Cut off the parasite classes benefits totally. Let them earn their keep.

  20. If you want to know about the National debt, Go To: www.lafn.org/gvdc/Natl_Debt_Chart.html. The Federal fiscal year runs from 9/30 to 9/30 the next year. From 9-30-2008 to 01-20-2009 the cheney/bush mis-administration increased the deficit by $600,000,000,000. Therefore one has to subtract that amount from the Obama deficit. The cheney/puppet bush tax cuts, mainly for the wealth, benefited the richest 400 by over $600,000,000,000. Many of the wealthy bought Euro's rather than invest in America. The Big Bailout for those "too big to fail" is composed of loans at .0015% which the Banksters were supposed to use in opening up the credit market. A lot of that money went to buy Treasuries for a return of approximately 3%. If the "Bankster Things" had not frozen the credit markets the automakers, casinos, and other businesses would not have laid off so many people, and they would not have borrowed so much money. The traditional republican party is dead! Go To: www.oldamericancentury.org/14pts.html. Also, if you want to know the status of health care by each state then Go To: www.commonwealthfund.org. Remember the Vets for the sacrifices they have made!

  21. I agree. Great letter.
I suppose it isn't if you are in the top 4% tax bracket.
Keep sending the poor whites, and people of color to fight the dirty wars overseas. Offer them lots of bonus money for their lives. Recruit them in high school, where they don't have a rat's a-- chance of getting a good education in Clark County.
Then, as usual, since the Confederacy, blame the woes of the country on the poor and minorities.
Just keep in mind, it is the "minorities" who are no longer the minority in this country.
The face of America is changing.
It is a true melting pot.
The financial rape of this country by the Bush gang is the last stand for the "elite".

  22. teamster: Did Junior get the job because he was the most quallified, just like the wannabe thug Junior Daley became mayor of Obamatown? Your union nepotism is just as bad as what the Kennedys, Bushes, Bidens, and Reids project.

  23. cnev has been a teacher in Las Vegas for about eight years and has a very closed and bigoted mind for a teacher of our children.

According to his previous posts, cnev hates just about everything and everybody that does not agree with him.

cnev really does not like FOX News. He says they are not fair and balanced. Sounds to me like it teacher cnev who is not fair and balanced.

Please reread his post and determine for yourself if cnev is the type of teacher you would like to have educate your children...

  24. Well Larry, cnev is right about one thing...

"they don't have a rat's a-- chance of getting a good education in Clark County."

...not with him as their teacher!

  25. Live better! Work Union!

  26. Yeah, work union. That means ten white guys standing around while one minority rakes macadam. Great system.

  27. Union members are unionized because they are too stupid to take care of themselves. Weak feeble people. That is why they form mobs. I LOVE to cross picket lines and extend my middle finger at the "brothers". I saw one brother kick my door in a parking lot one day. Know what happened, he had four flat tires two days later.

  28. jlb101 writes: "I am quite thankful for President Bush's tax cuts. It gave me more money to buy things I want..."

Spoken like a true Republican--I've got mine and to hell with everybody else.

  29. Jim,
No wonder you live in Mesquite. Please stay there and read a Las Vegas paper from a far because you are far from reality. The ONLY chance to mend bipartisnship was for Obama to actually do what he promised he would during his campaign speeches that got me to vote for him and now were obvious LIES to just get elected and grab power. Transparency, what a joke. Change, even a bigger joke. The country is now more divided than it had ever been even under Bush. McCain, war hero, honest, true patriot. We, I, messed up and voted in a another liar who gives a good speech.

After reading your post I'm reminded of what Abe Linclon once said. Abe said:

"Its best to remain silent and be thought a fool, rather than open one's mouth and confirm it."

From your post it's real easy to see that one of your weakest classes in school was history. Your high school history teacher would be disappointed in you and not happy with the fact that you slipped through the class and NEVER learned anything about the growth of and importance of Labor unions in this country.

I'm sure you have never heard of Terence Powderly, Samuel Gompers, John L. Lewis. or Walter Reuther......not to mention the Knights of Labor, the CIO, the National Labor Union, the Teamsters or the United Mine Workers of America.

Maybe your high school teacher told you about the importance of the labor union movement in this country and how America's unions were largely responsible for building the middle class in this country and raising the standard of living for everyone including YOU and ME! If you were told that, and I'm sure you were, it must have slipped right by you.

You may be anti-union......it's apparent that you are but don't be a fool and show your stupidity by saying what you did about unions and people who belong to unions.

Union's are taking a "hit" right now and to a small degree they deserve it, but the demise of unions in this country is not a good thing for America's middle class. I'm sure you don't believe that and I would be surprised if you did...

Go read a book or two on the history of labor unions and then come back and we'll have a real good discussion....

  31. mikeg:

Union workers help build this great country of
ours. I will always be a proud union worker.
The Teamsters Union is here to stay.

  32. bam1969:

Your comment did not address the issue, the
issue was name calling. Your not too bright.

  33. Do you know what I like about unions? Nothing!

  34. teamster:

I hope you got my response on the word "wailer?"

It may not be used as much as it used to be. But then what is.

My hometown newspaper calls their letters to the editor as "The Wailing Place."

  35. hey teamster, YOU'RE not too bright. take a grammar class moron.

  36. and go dig a ditch.

  37. Great budget fight, nothing left for the next year. Why you are shopping the Vegas budget 'till empty.

  38. There is NO difference between the Democratic and Republican parties! none whatsoever!!
