Ty Murray speaks during the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority meeting Tuesday morning, along with Randy Bernard, president and chief executive officer of Professional Bull Riders.

Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins is no longer the only cowboy in local government.

Collins, a fervent booster of all things western at commission meetings and before the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, was one-upped by Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman this morning when bull-riding legend Ty Murray presented Goodman with his cowboy hat as a token of appreciation for the LVCVA’s support of the Professional Bull Riders Series. Goodman chairs the LVCVA board.

The LVCVA extended its agreement with the PBR tour, assuring that the national championships would be conducted at the Thomas & Mack Center through 2012.

Professional Bull Riders Inc. CEO Randy Bernard also said at this morning’s meeting that a World Cup PBR event is headed for Las Vegas April 16-18. Rodeo cowboys from Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Australia are expected to compete with the top American bull riders at the event.

The third-ever World Cup event earlier this year drew 80,000 fans a night over 10 nights in Barretos, Brazil.

Goodman said he was surprised by Murray’s gesture, adding that the hat would find a place of honor in his office along with hundreds of other tributes he has received during his term of office.

Bernard also was surprised. He told LVCVA officials later that in the years he has known Murray he has never seen him give up one of his hats to anybody.

  1. I know He is just doing his job but why when health care comes up or when we here at minicare invite him or call he never responds? He can put on a hat and we all know he can sure drink yet he cant pick up a phone and call us here at minicare to even tell us why he did'nt attend or call and say he could'nt attend our ribbon cutting ceremoney. The mayor of henderson did. Mayor Oscar Goodman will no get my vote if he runs for any office. I will do my best to discorage anyone from voteing for him period. In my opinion he hasent shown he cares about the less fortunet or homeless who would be able to afford a doctor at our minicare clinic. He discustes me.

  2. EASYGOING i am with you i will never vote for him. this last year this city hit the skids. i really do not believe he care about any1

  3. I've heard the PBR people are some of the nicest people you'll ever want to meet.

    We can use their business.

I am thankful that the Mayor has taken steps to make sure he looks "Cowboy".

(This IS a western state, isn't it...?)

  4. Oscar found another way to look stupid.
