Hearing set for woman accused in crash that killed husband

Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009 | 6:19 p.m.

Approximate crash location

The preliminary hearing for a Boulder City woman charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and killing her husband in a crash has been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Jan. 5, 2010.

Melanie Moses Sisco, 36, appeared in front of Judge Victor Lee Miller in Boulder City Justice Court on Tuesday for an arraignment. She is charged with involuntary manslaughter, DUI and reckless driving, all of which are felonies.

The crash occurred on Aug. 26 while Melanie Sisco, who worked at the Hacienda hotel-casino, and her husband, Terry Sisco, a Hacienda security guard, were on their way home from the casino. Terry Sisco, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the Dodge truck when it went off the road and rolled over as they were traveling north on U.S. 93, police said.

Terry Sisco, 34, died about two hours later at University Medical Center’s trauma unit, according to a police report. Melanie Sisco was wearing a seat belt and was able to escape with minor injuries, police said.

Melanie Sisco told police after the crash they both had a few drinks before leaving the Hacienda, the police report said. She said she couldn't remember who was driving, but recalled undoing the seat belt to get out of the vehicle, the report said.

Police have said that only the driver’s side seat belt had been used.

After investigating the crash, police arrested Melanie Sisco and booked her into the Clark County Detention Center. She posted bail of $23,000 and isn't in custody.

Miller appointed the public defender’s office to represent her.
