Temperature to hit 80 today in Las Vegas

Storms possible Thursday or Friday, bringing rain in valley, snow in mountains

Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 | 7:36 a.m.

Today will probably bring the last of the string of 80-degree afternoons in Las Vegas.

But temperatures will still be running about seven to eight degrees above normal this weekend and through the middle of next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures were starting out at 56 degrees at 6:56 a.m. The normal low is 47 degrees and the record low is 23 degrees, set in 1938.

Temperatures will climb to 68 degrees by 9 a.m., to 74 degrees by noon and reach a high of 80 by about 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high temperature for today is 70 degrees and the record high is 84, set in 2007.

If you're heading out to the UNLV Rebels football game tonight, you might take a jacket. Temperatures will be about 67 degrees at the time of the 7 p.m. kickoff at Sam Boyd Stadium, forecasters said.

Temperatures will fall to about 60 by midnight, then reach a low of 53 degrees by 6 a.m. Sunday. Sunday's high will climb to a 76 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said.

The highs Monday through Wednesday will be in the upper 70s and the lows will be in the low 50s.

The extended forecast calls for a storm system coming through Thursday and Friday that could bring cooler temperatures and and a slight chance of rain in the valley and snow in the mountains in the region, forecasters said.
