Liberty has put together its best season in school history behind strong efforts from underclassmen.
But Friday night, it was the seniors who shined in Liberty’s 24-12 victory against Valley to close out the regular season.
“We subbed in a lot of seniors who didn’t get a lot of playing time during the season,” Liberty coach Rich Muraco said. “We have a lot of seniors on our team, but not many start. Most of the starters are freshmen, sophomores or juniors.”
Senior quarterback Tyler Knepp was the poster boy for the Senior Night triumph. Knepp, a backup quarterback, scored two rushing touchdowns and took control of the offense for much of the night.
Defensively, Kimo Seau starred with two sacks and an interception. Liberty improved to 7-3, while Valley dropped to 3-7.
Both teams had already made the playoffs.
“We controlled them on the ground,” Muraco said. “It was a great tune-up for the playoffs.”
