Letter to the editor:

Politicians work to benefit selves, not the country

Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 | 2:01 a.m.

Regarding Bob Jack’s Monday letter to the editor, headlined “Maybe major parties should fold ‘big tents’ ”:

If the “right” is not represented by the current Republican Party, then neither is the “left” by the Democrats.

They talk the talk and make promises but, at the end of the day, rarely deliver. They turned the U.S. treasury into a corporate piggy bank, blinked on climate change and now are poised to force us to buy overpriced health insurance and fine us if we don’t. Not one Wall Street con man, save Bernie Madoff, is spending retirement in jail. And they just can’t say “no” to more war.

Democrats and Republicans are just two heads of the same beast. They are neither democratic nor love their republic. They both do the bidding of their corporate paymasters. Not for the country. Not for you or me. Like addicts, they chase that dragon called campaign contributions.

So wake up unions, single-payer/anti-war/enviro/green energy folks and LGBTs. Like an abusive spouse, the Democrats will never change. They will promise to never again kick us to the curb but they will. It is their nature.

So next election, let’s hope we have a real choice.

  1. Quale -- well put!

But the flip side of this is the ignorance and apathy of We the People, who keep voting only along these party lines. So long as We act like livestock We deserve to be treated like livestock.

"It is surely time for men to think for themselves, and to throw off the authority of names so artificially magnified." -- Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Short, August 4, 1820

  2. This is just another example of someone who conveniently ignores the facts and expresses an opinion without true merit. Where is the "beef" facts? You or I cannot cry "fire" in a crowded theater when there is no fire, but the right wing Fascist do it constantly to distract you from the facts. You should know what McCarthyism, and the "Big Lie" propaganda is. Do some research by googling or just typing the subject into the address bar. Try: National Debt, health care, and the 14 points of Fascism-then form a true opinion.

  3. ghost -- it's called opinion. Pay attention -- the facts don't mean a lot to most who post here. But then your version of facts and truth don't mean the same as mine, or someone else's, no?

  4. Ghost,

You are pretty selective with your facts so don't suggest what other people say is a lie or propaganda...

  5. Thats the problem the American people do not want to think for themselfs thats why we have so many welfare programs in place. People always look for an excuse to slack-off and say it's somebody else's problem when in reality it's yours and yours alone.

  6. Health care reform will pass. Any Congressman
or Senator who votes against it should be voted
    out of office.

  7. teamster -- opinions vary, and mine varies from yours.
