Letter to the editor:

Live healthfully, and you’ll enjoy more of life

Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 | 2 a.m.

I was so happy to see Ronald R. Mercer’s letter to the editor in Wednesday’s Las Vegas Sun regarding our lack of responsibility for our own health by not eating right and listening to all the drug commercials on television.

I would like to add that when your doctor prescribes a medication, ask if there is something you can do instead, such as through diet, exercise or other supplements. For example, if you are told your cholesterol is high, don’t just take a pill to bring it down. Quit eating double cheeseburgers and fries.

When you walk anywhere, which should be daily, move! I see people in their 30s and 40s every day walking slowly, overweight and breathless. I am 81, take no prescriptions and walk several miles a day at 3.5-4 mph.

Move! Even if it’s around your house. You’ll feel so much better. You’ll sleep much better. You’ll enjoy life.

  1. Malcolm,

You are a wise man, but I doubt if there are a handful of Las Vegans who are listening to you.

  2. I'm listening.

  3. I'm listening... I am going to move the beer from the kitchen refrigerator to the refrigerator out in the garage. That should get me to walk a couple of miles every day...

  4. I wore myself out today walking to the garage to get a beer. After a while, I got smart and brought in two beers at a time...

  5. Larry, I always knew you to be smart, but to be able to count to 2, this is beyond my wildest dreams.

  6. Mr. Telloian:

Great advice. That's what it takes to feel
better and lower health care costs.
Harry Reid does 100 push-ups everyday.
