Metro officer identified in traffic stop shooting

Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 | 11:08 a.m.

The officer involved in the shooting of Raymond James Duensing last week has been identified as David Gilbert, 48, assigned to traffic patrol, Metro Police said today.

Gilbert had stopped Duensing for an illegal turn on Thursday when the officer found that the motorist had several warrants, police said.

Duensing left his car and began to run across Cheyenne Avenue west of Michael Way, police said.

Gilbert first tried a Taser, but Duensing reached into his waistband for a handgun, police said. The officer fired, striking Duensing three times.

Gilbert has been with Metro since February 1993.
