Las Vegas to get near-record heat today

High temperature to reach close to 72-year-old record for today’s date

Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 | 6:26 a.m.

Keep your sunglasses and short sleeves handy. Sunny skies and near-record afternoon temperatures in the 80s are heading to Las Vegas this week.

The National Weather Service says a ridge of high pressure will be over the region throught the middle of the week, leading to dry conditions and above-normal temperatures.

Temperatures were starting at 53 degrees at 5:56 a.m. at McCarran International Airport. Forecasters say temperatures will climb to 70 degrees by 9 a.m., to 77 by noon and top out at 83 degrees at 4 p.m. today — which is just under the record high of 84 degrees, set in 1937.

The normal high for today's date is 72 degrees.

The record low for today's date was 28 degrees, set in 1943. The normal low is 49 degrees.

Overnight, the low will fall to 54 degrees by 6 a.m. Tuesday, then will climb to a high of 84 degrees by 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The extended forecast calls for Wednesday's high to be 83 degrees, Thursday's high to be 85 and Friday's to be 83.

  1. The high temp record for Nov. 2 in Las Vegas is only 84 degrees and that goes back to 1937?

I would have thought it would be much higher than that, at least 100.

    Surprising.

  2. Nice weather - it would have been a nice summer day in upstate New York - think about - the weather is to kill for and to duck if you see Peter pull out his Gun!

  3. Yea nice summer day after you endured 5 months of oppresive heat and temps over 100 every day.

You can have it. I am perfectly happy with my sunny 55 degree day where I live and the beautiful trees with the beautiful colors and all the other vegetation that the desert doesn't have.

Put on a jacket and maybe a sweatshirt or fleece if you need to and their is nothing like taking your daily walk in 55 degree weather with a little breeze.

Wouldn't trade it for the world and I don't gamble anyway. I'm not that dumb. LOL
