Attic fire does $50,000 damage to house in Henderson

Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 | 1:47 a.m.

House fire

A fire in the attic of a two-story house in Henderson Saturday night did about $50,000 damage, but the occupant of the home escaped without injury, officials said.

The fire was reported shortly after 11 p.m. in the 2300 block of Silver Crew Pass, in the Sunridge Heights area of Green Valley South, the Henderson Fire Department said.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the attic vents on the back of the house. It took crews about 20 minutes to put out the blaze, which appeared to be accidental, officials said.

The occupant was alerted to the fire by the odor of smoke and said that when he went to investigate, he found fire in the attic above the laundry room, officials said.

A total of 29 fire personnel responded to the blaze. They were assisted by a city building inspector, Southwest Gas and NV Energy.
