Letter to the Editor:

Sen. Harry Reid delivers for Nevada

Sunday, May 31, 2009 | 2:04 a.m.

In 2004 Tom Daschle was the Democratic Senate minority leader from South Dakota. Running for reelection, he fell victim to attacks from Republicans from across the country. Money poured in from the GOP, and his opponent, John Thune, won the senatorial race — a big mistake by South Dakota voters.

Instead of having an influential senator who would have provided adequate funding for the state, they now have freshman Republican Sen. Thune, a member of the minority party whose main task is to twiddle his thumbs in the back rows of the Senate.

The Republicans have now set their sights on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, denouncing his record and insisting that some dewy-eyed freshman Republican senator could do more for Nevada. It’s total nonsense, and you’d be a fool to believe their message.

All you have to do is look at South Dakota to see what a terrible mistake it would be to oust Harry Reid. Like him or not, he’s the leader of the Senate and can do much for Nevada.

  1. Hey Richard > Your acting like South Dakota fell off the map and your point is what. THAT NEVADA CAN'T SURVIVE WITHOUT HARRY REID, IT CAN AND IT WILL.

  2. "Like him or not, he's the leader of the Senate and can do much for Nevada"

I guess you can say he "can do much" because he sure as hell has not "done much" for Nevada.

The Democrats can keep trying to sell this donkey that does not move.

Reid might be the 2nd most powerful person in DC.

That has translated into very little for Nevada on a per capita basis.

We are near the bottom of getting Nevadan taxpayer money returned to the state.

We are near the bottom on getting Federal dollars for education.

We are near the bottom on getting stimulus funds.

His family members in DC who are lobbyists sure has seen the benefit of that power by turning it into a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

  3. Is the LV Sun going to runs these letters for Harry every day until the 2010 election?

When the Harry Reid "juice" is wrongly directed and results in inept laws like the ineffective Stimulus package you have to cut them loose.

Nevada got way less then its fair share in stimulus and what it did get had too many strings attached

As Richard J. Mundy must know Harry Reid since 1986 has failed to change the Yucca law - the NWPA, and allowed for spending $198 million for the NRC LA review and approval. Yucca will be back when Obama has no use for Harry.

Harry Reid continues to put the likes of Chris Dodd in Senate leadership roles.

  4. Mundy, you are Ted Bundy. Get Reid out.

  5. God Bless Harry Reid and may Harry Reid continue his wise and good works. We will all benefit by keeping Harry Reid in the Senate. Love, Bingowaba

  6. VOTE HARRY OUT!

  7. Obama is president of the US, but he sure hasn't done anything for the US. So, Harry Reid has nothing for Nevada. If they would clean their own house maybe more people would believe what they say. Harry did a turn around on GITMO because Obama came out and kissed his rear end.

  8. Richard Mundy said:

"Like him or not, he's the leader of the Senate and can do much for Nevada."

Key word here is "can do", Richard. Harry Reid "did not and won't do" much of anything for Nevada. As I said in my other post, VOTE HARRY OUT!

  9. John Murtha "delivers" for his district in Pennsylvania. How is that good for anyone? Dump harry Reid, he is a cancer on this nation just like his buddy nancy Pelosi.

  10. Rich I don't think you want the citizens of Nevada to remember your letter here supporting Mr. Reid when the Dream Act '09 passes and Nevada and the rest of the United States have millions of undocumented aliens becoming citizens because of the Dream Act '09. Haven't there been enough of the illegals in our country to have hit their "gold mine" here in the U.S.of A, while putting the citizens, the ones who want to work, out in their tent cities or on the streets?. Where has the term "of the people for the people" been buried with the rest of the Constitution and Bill of Rights which is slowly being whittled away? We have got to start opening our eyes.

  11. LINDA ROCKS! BINGOWABA sucks rocks. Bingo must be a welfare govt sucking loser like the Obama/Reid voters who want a check from the hard working successful Americans for doing nothing but being born in this country. Move to France Bingo, you will fit in there.

  12. twinsdad, why don't you grow up?

  13. Mr. Mundy. Your letter, like all the rest, has no specifics. "Harry Reid delivers for Nevada."

Please enumerate all that he has done for Nevada. No, please just list 10 things that have helped Nevada.

What does your Daschel reference mean - "an influential senator who would have provided adequate funding for the state?" I have no idea what you are talking about.

A good senator, one worth keeping, is one who works for the best interest of the country. If a huge portion of the money coming out of D.C. went to Kansas - lets say 50% of all domestic spending - would you be OK with that?

We are talking about representatives at the federal government level. It is not a competition between states. "Clout" in D.C. means your face gets on the news more and your palm gets greased more.

Financially, Harry Reid has done substantially better than the rest of Nevada since he's been in office. Don't take my word for it. Find out how much his income has increased since he's been in office and compare that to your own income.

  14. gmag39,
You are only 39, I'm 46. You grow up you welfare loser.

  15. Mr. Mundy has it right! Voters in Nevada would be foolish to get rid of Harry Reid. It would be another South Dakota mistake all over again...

Of course, who in the world is the GOP going to pick to run against Harry? I can't come up with the name of a single viable candidate that the Republicans have to oppose Harry.....

Harry won reelection in 2004 with over 65% of the votes cast.....that took place with George W. Bush winning reelection nationally and Nevada going "red." Nevada is now a "blue" state and a very popular Democrat is now living in the White House.....

  16. Harry and his corrupt land dealings, false prophets and declaring the war lost in Iraq while American troops were on the ground...

    Did I miss anything?

  17. South Dakota is actually in BETTER shape without Daschle. Now all those dead people who voted for him from precincts located on reservations can truly rest in peace. By the way, Rich M NEVER says exactly what Unca Harry DOES for Nevada. He's just too impressed with Unca Harry's Prom King status as SML. As you can tell by Rich's many letters & comments, he supports people based exclusively on party affiliation rather than their ability to perform a job.
