Letter to the editor:

Hysteria overtakes Gitmo conversation

Friday, May 29, 2009 | 2:04 a.m.

When Gov. Brian Schweitzer in his cowboy hat heard that Hardin, Mont., is willing to take Gitmo detainees, he said “no way.”

Sen. Jim Webb, ex-Marine, said not in Virginia. Not even 15 Chinese Uighurs who were declared innocent.

Republicans say the terrorists will think we are weak because the president is willing to talk to our adversaries. What do they think terrorists are saying now after hearing this panic response to housing 240 detainees?

I’m beginning to think term limits are our only answer. At least every decision a politician makes is not based on the next election.

If we cannot work this out in a legal and practical way, then it’s finally happened, folks. The terrorists have won.
