Powell, Limbaugh not in the same league
Sunday, May 17, 2009 | 2:06 a.m.
In his Wednesday letter to the editor denouncing former Secretary of State Colin Powell, headlined “Powell may as well register as a Democrat,” Bob Jack inadvertently gave the reason for the Republican rout this past Election Day.
Powell assessed the candidates and decided that Barack Obama was the better candidate for president. He was denounced for his choice by Rush Limbaugh, who accused him of backing Obama because he was black.
Powell, who rose to the level of four-star general, served his country with distinction, while Rush avoided serving during the Vietnam War by claiming a knee injury. We Democrats would welcome Powell into our party, and we have enormous respect for him even if he decides not to join us.
Mr. Jack and the Republican Party can have Rush Limbaugh — we’ll take Colin Powell any day.

"We Democrats would welcome Powell into our party"
What have you missed - Powell has no known positions that support Republican ideas.
Again The Democrats feel the need to tell Republicans who their leaders should be.
Are Republican telling Democrats that Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi should be their leaders?
Look neither Colin Powell nor Rush Limbaugh is an elected leader of the Republicans - so get over it and mind your own problems like:
ELECTED Congressional Leadership is corrupt:
- Scam land baron Majority Leader Harry Reid,
- Mortgage defrauder Senate Banking Chairman Chris Dodd,
- Air America, SNL, and Porn Comic Alfred E. Franken,
- Tainted ex-Federal Lobbyist Roland Burris,
- Air Force 2 frequent flyer and ardent immigration leftista, EIT denier House Speaker Madam Nancy Pelosi,
- Tax dodger House Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel
- Fannie/Freddie BFF House Banking Chairman Barney Franks
Sticks and Stones do hurt our bones and so do words. Goodness, how about war criminal GWBush and Dicky Cheney, and on and on ad nauseum. Hmmm, Let's learn to get along and hunt for resolution to problems. Neither party is worth a crap. But neither are most comments on these blogs. Ok, have a great Sunday! May God bless ALL of his children.
Amen, revtomperl.
I personally don't believe that Rush Limbaugh is the current leader of the Republican Party. I might be wrong about that, however.
If Rush is the leader of the GOP, then the "Grand Old Party" is, with out question, lost in the political wilderness.....
Abe Lincoln would be shocked if he could see the present day Republican Party. I'm not sure Honest Abe would be calling himself a Republican. The same can be said about Teddy Roosevelt....
Wonder what Teddy would think about the GOP's stand against such things as renewable energy and protecting our enviroment?
The present-day Republican Party's love affair with big oil and their habit of just looking the other way as American corporations continued to send American jobs off-shore would not set well with Roosevelt....
I wonder if Abe would have the support of his party if he was trying to build a transcontinental railroad as he did during the 1860's? I wonder if the GOP members of Congress would vote for such a project or would they simply call it "unneeded pork" and vote against it?
