The Boulder City High boys swimming team is perfect — again.
The Eagles topped Silverado 189.5-103.5 on Saturday at the Henderson Multigenerational Outdoor Competition Pool to finish the regular season undefeated for the ninth straight year.
While the Eagles' top swimmers — like junior Zane Grothe who won two events against Silverado — are year-round competitors, the biggest reason for the team's success is its seasonal swimmers, coach Sara Carroll said.
Boulder City typically has more swimmers than the opposition, often fielding the maximum amount of swimmers allowed per event, in adding valuable points with second and third place finishes.
"Most of our kids tend to be all-around good athletes," Carroll said. "They have a good mentality for training and push themselves to get better."
Grothe, who competed in the Olympic Trial last summer, led the way against Silverado by winning the 200 freestyle in 1 minute, 45.50 seconds and the 100 back stroke in 58:13.
Cameron Walker was also a double winner, taking the 200 IM in 2:05.43 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.62. Cody Molisee took the 50 free in 22.53 and the 100 free in 50.94, while Dylan Bunch captured the the 500 free in 4:54.78. The Eagles also won all three relays.
Boulder City's girls, which lost one meet this season, had a pair of double winners in beating Silverado 156-121.
Paige Moravec took the 200 IM in 2:30.71 and the 100 butterfly in 1:09.18, and Kelsy Thompson won the 500 free in 5:40.74 and the 100 backstroke in 1:07.04.
BC golfer takes fourth in league match
Boulder City High's Ryan Roundtree fired a 7-over-par 79 on April 30 during a 3A Southern League division match at Palm Valley Golf Course in Sun City Summerlin.
Roundtree also posted a 40 in a non-league match against Desert Oasis on April 27 at the Primm Valley Golf Club.
Roundtree's efforts were not enough in the division event as the Eagles took last out of the league's four teams with a 446. Faith Lutheran, behind medalist Yuki Kato's 71, won the match with a 387. Kato has won all seven league matches this year.
"We have some kids who are capable of having low rounds," Boulder City coach Bob Northridge said. "We are hanging in there. Our scores are still coming down."
Virgin Valley was second with a 429 and Moapa Valley was third at 432. The final division match is May 7 at Highland Falls Golf Course in Summerlin.
"We have been getting better. I'm looking to rebound this week," Northridge said.
Baseball swept by Faith Lutheran
The Boulder City High baseball team could not have asked for a better start against rival Faith Lutheran on May 1 during the first game of a 3A Southern League doubleheader.
The Eagles executed the hit-and-run to perfection as freshman Nate Hafen doubled home senior Shane Levin for an early 1-0 lead in the first inning of the first game.
That turned out to be the lone bright spot.
Faith Lutheran would score the next 21 runs in the twinbill to win both games by the 10-run mercy rule after five innings. The Crusaders were victorious 11-1 and 10-0.
