Dozens of Catholic bishops are criticizing the University of Notre Dame for planning to give President Barack Obama an honorary degree because they claim he supports abortion rights. But I don’t understand why they are criticizing him.
Barack and Michelle Obama are Christians who attended Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago for about 20 years, were married there, and had their two daughters baptized there.
Isn’t it rather childish and petulant of these bishops to expect the president of the United States to follow Catholic doctrine? If so, I guess they believe every American should.
The bottom line is that the Roe v. Wade decision handed down by the United States Supreme Court in January 1973 ruled that women have the right to choose an abortion, and that’s not going to change anytime soon.
