Metro Police are searching for a man who robbed the MGM Grand hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip this morning, officials said.
Police units were called at about 4:42 a.m. today to the MGM Grand's high limit slot machine area, a spokesman for Metro said. A man believed to be in his 30s displayed a handgun and robbed the casino, fleeing on foot, police said.
He then left the resort on a motorcycle in an unknown direction, police said. The man fled with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
The man is described as black, 5-foot-10-inches tall with a medium build and wearing a black jacket, black pants and carrying a black handgun, said Officer Bill Cassell.
"The important thing about this suspect is, he was not wearing a helmet," Cassell said.
In previous robberies motorcycle riders wore helmets as a disguise, Cassell said. If anyone saw a man riding a motorcycle without a helmet between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m. near the MGM Grand, police want to know about it, Cassell said. "Lots of little pieces from citizens' tips make a picture," he said.
Yvette Monet, a spokeswoman for the MGM Grand, said no one was injured during the robbery.
"We are fully cooperating with the police as their investigation is continuing," Monet said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Metro's Robbery Section at (702) 828-3591, or to remain anonymous, callers may contact the Crime Stoppers hot line at (702) 385-5555. A reward may be offered to the anonymous person who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of a felony crime.
