Senior Center temporarily suspends lunches

The Senior Center of Boulder City, 813 Arizona St., is suspending its lunch program this week because of a broken water heater.

Center staff opened the building this morning to find a flood in the basement caused by the water heater, Director Lori DeCreny said.

The Southern Nevada Health District requires the kitchen to have hot water to serve food, so lunches were suspended until the water can be fixed, she said. All other activities are continuing as scheduled, she said.

The break came just two days after a fundraiser at the center that brought in $1,500 for Senior Center programs.

“We are grateful that our fundraiser was successful, but we had not intended to spend the proceeds on a water heater,” DeCreny said.

The center is accepting donations to replace the water heater, she said. For more information, call 293-3320.
