Drowning
The 1-year-old girl who died Thursday in North Las Vegas of an apparent drowning has been identified as Alin Jazmin Nevaraz of Las Vegas, the Clark County Coroner's Office said.
The cause and manner of death have not been determined, a spokeswoman for the coroner's office said.
The toddler died at a hospital after her mother said she found the girl in a bucket inside a mobile home in North Las Vegas, said Sgt. Tim Bedwell of the North Las Vegas Police Department said.
Police detectives are conducting a death investigation to determine whether the circumstances around the girl's death involve criminal acts, Bedwell said. At this time no charges have been filed.
In homes with young children, common materials such as water in a bucket, a tub or a sink can create a hazard, since a small child can drown in a very shallow amount of liquid in any kind of container, Bedwell said.
Police were called to 1905 McDaniel St. to a medical center office next to North Vista Hospital shortly after noon, Bedwell said.
The mother had told medical personnel she found the girl in a bucket of water inside a mobile home at 2001 E. Tonopah Ave. and the clinic staff started CPR.
The mother had walked, carrying the child, about one block from the residence, Bedwell said.
The unresponsive child was rushed to University Medical Center's Pediatric Trauma Unit by ambulance, where she was pronounced dead at about 1:10 p.m. Thursday, Bedwell said.
