New Orleans jazz takes center stage Sunday at the Winchester Cultural Center, with some of the area’s top musicians joining forces to present one of the liveliest concerts of the year.
“Mardi Gras Mambo” features Michael Ray Tyler, trumpet; Nathan Kimball, trombone; Dave Poe, clarinet; Gary Queen, guitar; Bill Bailey, bass and Alfredo Alvarenga, drums.
The concert highlights the music of such artists as Jellyroll Morton and Louis Armstrong.
This will be a Dixieland concert, but all of the musicians are known for their diversity – from contemporary jazz to classicl music.
Says Queen, “Blues and early jazz are the fountainhead of American music, so in many ways we have lived this music our whole careers.”
