Officials are re-considering the closure of the Sun City Summerlin post office, located inside the Longs Drugs, following a community outcry that included threats of boycotting and picketing.
Several residents of the 55-plus community threatened to pull their prescriptions from the store if it shuttered the U.S. Postal Service branch inside Longs, 9430 Del Webb Blvd.
CVS, which bought out Longs Drugs last year, plans an extensive remodel of the Longs store, which included taking out the post office later this month.
Mike DeAngelis, spokesman for CVS/pharmacy, said Tuesday afternoon that the company has heard the complaints.
"We did intend to close that post office, but we got a proposal from the postal service about keeping it open," DeAngelis said. "We're evaluating that and expecting to have a final decision in the next two or three days."
He declined to comment on the proposal.
"We absolutely have to have a post office because of the size of the community," said Brenda Izen, who gathered 500 signatures on a petition she sent to CVS. "It's not fair to punish people who have done so much for history."

about the sun city post office. it is a contract station, the post office pays long's a fee based on how much revenue it takes in.it is cheaper for the post office to do this because the workers there are paid much less then postal worker get(they are long's employees).this contract station has to charge the same prices that the post office charges.the workers there give the little extra that the residence need.
