A 59-piece string orchestra will fill the Boulder City Library amphitheater with songs old and new Friday.

The Glendora High School orchestra, from Glendora, Calif., will perform at 6 p.m. for about 45 minutes, orchestra instructor Lucy Clark said.

Her two orchestra classes are taking their annual trip this year to Las Vegas for a clinic at UNLV.

Clark said she’s excited to have found a venue for the orchestra to play during the educational field trip.

Last year, the classes performed in Sacramento, Calif. and traveled to San Francisco.

The students will perform pieces from Mozart to Van Morrison, tangos and folk songs in Boulder City, Clark said.

They plan to sightsee at Hoover Dam and will stay in Henderson.

“Eight years ago, I started with a class of 22 and now I have 82 kids,” she said. “There’s a real passion for it.”

The Boulder City Chamber of Commerce arranged the concert with Clark.

Friends of the Arts will sell refreshments at the concert.
