For its first time in front of an audience and not around a campfire, Mystery Couch wowed an audience.

The members of the six-piece high school jam band said playing to a packed auditorium was not daunting in the least.

"There was no nerve-wracking. We were just excited," keyboard player Nick Keeling said.

Boulder City High School's Talent Show saw one big finale Feb. 26, when Mystery Couch's encore lured the other 20 contestants to dance next to them.

The stars flashed on and off the stage during the drama club's fifth annual fundraiser, and Mystery Couch took home the audience favorite award out of the 15 acts.

"Music is about expressing your passion, and that's why we succeeded tonight," Keeling said.

The band, which formed about two months ago, is made up of juniors Keeling, Jon Streator on drums, Ross LaMarca on guitar and vocals, Zac Haley on guitar, Danny O'Connor on the marching bass drum and tambourine, and senior Brett Turner on saxophone.

The group took the name from O'Connor's impossibly uncomfortable couch, but it plans to change its name soon.

The show's singing, dancing, guitars and drums raised $800 for the group's production and other expenses, theater teacher Heidi Lee said.

The Drama Club's final production this year is "Play On!" It is a series of theatrical productions that runs from April 23-25 at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium.
